regular f150 exhaust question, sounding like crap

since the f150 exhaust board is dead, thought i'd ask here

my buddy has a 2001 f150 4x4,

he had a 40 series flowmaster put on and then duals ran out, said it sounded like crap,

now he had them take the muffler out and run straight pipes, and it doesn't sound as bad, but still not good, idle is ok, but as soon as you get on it, it has more of a whiny sound, kinda like a jet engine or something

when i had my 4x4 supercrew f150 about 2 years ago, i had the single magnaflow with duals coming out and it sounded good,

do you think it would be the same for him?

should be the same setup, but i would think the straight pipes would be loud as hell but they aren't

It's the cats. Thats what is killing the sound. I ran straight pipes for a while also and it wasn't loud at all.

Beef,

Get a Bullet Style MagnaFlow you know the old Glasspack style or the JDM Silver bullet. Just do one long skinny one, two into one in and one into two out. Its a good sound..... You can get those really cheap at any auto parts store.

In between my gen1 and gen 2 lightning I had a regular F150

I made a similar mistake as your friend, I put a Bassani cat back on mine and it sounded like crap.

I then replace the Bassani with a Bullet 6 inch round muffler, which sounded awesome on the non supercharged engine.

here is a link on the bullet mufflers, they are verry simmilar to the Magnaflow.

I put a 50 series Flowmaster on my F-250 LD 5.4. I just cut out the factory muffler and put the Flow in it's place. Sounded good not loud, just a nice rumble.

I had a '99 F-150 with nothing but pipe from the cats back and it was loud as !@#$!! No whiny sounds, just deep rumbling and popping.
