Insurance Question...

I'm just curious what my insurance will be. My L will be arriving in a couple of months. Im 16, and will be on one of my parents policies. Is there anyone on this board with a 16-17 year old on there insurance as a secondary driver? I have a clean record. Also.. I live in Ohio, if that has to do with anything. Any response is appreciated, thanks

Majority of insurance companies classify the Lightning as a flareside regular cab F-150. If not it would be classified as a sports car/truck. Remember new cars are always more to insure than used cars because they are more expensive to fix when wrecked.

I've found the contrary, most insurance (actually ALL that I have tried..and that is over 15) classify it seperately as an SVT Lightning, usually classifying it as a high performance vehicle. Expect very expensive rates for yourself.

Only way to find out for sure is to get some quotes. Get a lot...rates vary enormously. No one here will be able to help you because rates are very individualistic.

Now...let's talk about your parents buying you a Lightning at 16.

When i called my agent i said 1999 Ford SVT Lightning He said what the hell is that? I then said a 1999 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning and he said they do not have a seperate category for it and it is classified as a F-150

Who do you have spanky?

Every single insurance company I tried, the VIN came back as an SVT and got bumped into the Hi-Performance category.

Granted as far as an insurance salesperson knows it's a normal F150. But when they enter the VIN into their computer it's in a seperate catagory. I am sure of this, half my family is in the insurance business.

When I had my 99 I paied about $860 every six months, now that I have an 02 Lightning I pay about 1,080 every six months. One hell of an increse.

Weird.....

My Allstate insurance agent is out of Austin, TX and is able to insure anyone in the state of TX. I used to live on the Northside until I relocated to San Angelo a few years ago. When I first told him I was selling my '02 Firehawk and replacing it with an '02 Lightning he stated that he had never heard of a Lightning or insured one that he recalled. I gave him the VIN and told him it was a supercharged F150 but he still said it was pulling up as a normal F-150. I told him it was a 33K vehicle, and he noted that on my policy should anything arise. Since they go by the VIN number he was confident there would not be a problem.

I have also read that others have been told what I stated above.

I am 28 and unmarried with a clean driving record.

50/100/50 coverage & 50/100/50 uninsured coverage
PIP $2500
Collision $500 deductible w/ actual cash value
Comprehensive $100 deductible w/ actual cash value
Towing $80.00
Rental $25 per day up to $750

6 month premium $373.00
