One of the deciding factors on our home when we purchased it, was that I wanted hot and cold water and several drains in the garage.
We were able to find exactly what we wanted in the school district we wanted. DOUBLE WINNER !!!!
The first day after we were all moved in, I bought 10 gallons of latex "enamel" and painted all the interior walls and the ceiling.
(The entire garage was finished in drywall)
Some of the neighbors look at me funny , but when I bought the
12 two foot swivel based flourescent lights from the clothing store in the mall that went out of business, and installed them, they really thought I had flipped. When my garage door is open and the lights are on, it looks like a body shop in there. You almost need sun glasses. Once the compressor, welder, and etc. were installed and the same neighbors saw me using them, it didn't take them long to start bringing their broken and in need of repairs items over. Now who is laughing at who ?
Yes, I do wash my cars in my garage.

Marc

The floor is sealed with an all-inclusive kit from Rust-Oleum called Epoxyshield. Preparing the floor was the toughest part (read: lots of scrubbing) but applying the epoxy and tossing on the flakes was easy. Kits are available at Lowe's.

Watch out for the Home Depot/Lowes brand garage floor paint. It is not good. Followed directions and within one year paint was lifiting. Put up with it for three years. Redid the floor this summer with the paint from Griot's Garage. In order for the paint to "stick" the floor needs to be bead blasted(expensive), or acid etched. Nasty stuff for sure. but it works. Just scrubbing the floor does not get the "smear layer" off so the paint cannot bond to the floor. Now my garage floor pulls the rubber off the Taurus's tire a little. One other advantage of a painted floor is near lack of dust. Also keeps the house cleaner.

I also wash in the garage when it is sunny. Even when it is cold outside, having the mixing valve in the garage for hot/cold is awesome.

agreed. in the former abode I used Thompson's (read: CRAP) floor paint. hot tire pickup like a mu ****a and it stuck to skin better than the floor..

So far, the Epoxy is holding up. We'll see how it does over the winter.

you could always paint it orange and put a big Elk's head in the center, or something.

Here's a shot of the faux finish floor in progress. It's a PPG product and is holding up well. Also a little 2pc crown molding and can lights on dimmers to set the mood. Some 7" base doesn't hurt either. The garage door opener is really trick

Now you guys are making me want my 2000 sq.ft. shop floor to look like those. You guys are rotten.

No I can't wash mine in the shop. I need to put in a water treatment system. Our water is so hard, I can't use it on the L.

Hmmmm.........Hot water heater, water softener, new sporty floor, Sattelite TV,..........hahahaha...........I wont get any work done.

Right now I'm lucky to have the microwave & fridge, and the woodstove.

p.s. I'll soon post a pic. of the shop 7 years ago when it was empty. LOL I've only got another 5 years of cleaning & throwing out things. I'm going to start giving away things to those who can come and pick them up.

Smile

Making me jealous... I would be thrilled with a paved driveway! I get up at sunrise to wash my L in the "shade". Don't have to worry about the cold here in Florida!
