what is going on????

well i went to a ford dealer today here in san diego and i was just amazed how stupid the salemen are. i was just looking a used s2000 for a daily car and i just asked how much you will give me for the lightning as a trade. and guess what they say. ill give u the s2000 and u give me the truck plus 7.5gs. i was like what the hell. and then he insults me by saying the s2000 is faster then the truck. when i heard that, i was like omg. he wanted to bet me and i was like ok. but then he didnt say ***** after that. they wouldnt even give me 22 for it its a 2000 with 25k miles on it. i just donet understand. but the funny thing is they had the same truck and they are selling at 35k. what is up with that.

i cnat believe that crap. i just think they were just giving me ***** because i am young.
sorry for long story just venting

Honda S-2000 vtech
Transmission 6-speed Manual
Theoretical Top Speed 153 mph
Limited Top Speed
0-60 mph, Hard Launch 5.6 s
1/4 mile, Hard Launch 14.2 s @ 100.3 mph
MSRP $30,000-34,000 (depends on options)

2001+ SVT Lightning
Auto-3 speed.
Theoretical Top Speed 142mph (hah)
Aerolimited Top Speed
0-60 mph, 5.8s
1/4 mile, 13.9 s @ 100mph
MSRP $32300

Um...it would be really close. I also dunno how many miles are on your truck, but if it was the 34k honda (they don't deal too much on them, they're popular), minus the 7.5 you'd pay, that give your truck a trade in value of 26500, which isn't bad if its a 2001.

That's not that bad of a deal on your truck. They will sell your truck for probably around 25-26K. So 22K on your truck sounds right. A used S2000 for 29-30K doesn't sound to bad to me. They hold their value and then some. Just my thoughts...

When i was going to trade my truck for an 03 cobra they only offered me 19K for my truck and 34K for the cobra..The price of the cobra wasn't bad but the offer on my truck was crazy to me..I guess it was about right considering my truck is a 99 and had 56K miles on it at the time.. I should have known better....

I told the salesman I'd pass although it would have been nice to drive a black 03 cobra home..

He even let me test drive it...Boy those things really fly!

When I downshifted from 5th to third it snapped me and the salesmen into the seat...

Re: S2000 vs Lightning

About the same time that I purchased my '01 L, my colleague bought an S2000. He chided me for getting a "pickup" instead of a sports car. I told him I was more interested in having the fastest ride in the parking lot, and not spending more than $32k for it. He was unimpressed, but then one night I happened to be pulling out of the hospital just as he was coming on for the night shift. The opportunity was too good to pass up. There is a large avenue in front of the hospital with little traffic. We pulled up next to each other, and just as I was rolling down the window to speak to him, he launches. I paniced and nailed the throttle, lighting up the rear hides. He was over three car lengths ahead before I hooked up, but then I reeled him in. When I shut down at about 85, he was only visable in my rear view mirror. No contest.

BTW, he doesn't chide me anymore for driving a pickup.

No offense, your friend can't drive or your truck isn't stock.

Our trucks are not that much faster then an S2000 in good hands. It is a VTECH vehicle, so you have to hit it hard and shift high. He was probably scared. The thing has a ~9000rpm max.. Me and a friend of mine with a Silver S2K have fun everyonce in a while on the road, we never stomp on each other. He's faster then me because I drive a 2000 Lightning.

Rayden's cloud - they were going to give you $19,000 on trade?????

I was looking to get $18,500 out of my '99 with 40,000 miles... and I would be happy. let me know what dealer you had, and they can have mine for $19,000 as long as they have an 02 true blue on x-plan

krnlightning, the used car market is where the real money is made. Your examples bear this out. You will not get more than 22K from that dealer for your truck. He will then park it right beside the other one for 35K.

Whoever, traded the Honda in didn't get more than 22K and you will pay 29K for it.

Used is where the money is.

that and Financing is where they make money. Most used cars are not bought with cash and they don't offer 0%, so they make much more on the used ones.
