Anyone who has had this happen to them, please help!!!!!
Hey guys,
I went to my local dealership Saturday to have them look at the truck because it's been making a crazy rattling noise that is driving me NUTS! Ahhhhhhhhh! Anyway, the tech took the truck for a test drive (with me of course) and he too heard the same noise I have been hearing. The noise occurs when I go over bumps, it sounds like someone is under the truck pounding on the floor of the cab with a hammer. It's like something is loose and rattles around when going over bumps. You can actually feel the vibration on the floor in the cab and in the seat. I've checked everything under the truck and I'm still unable to find the cause of my madness. Checked exhaust, seat, doors, side skirt, fuel lines, spare tire, sway bars and anything else you can think of, everything seems to be tight. The shocks do not seem to be leaking and I've run out of things to check. The service manager told me they may have to take the bed of the truck off. Ahhhhhhh Nooooooo, this sounds like trouble to me. Do you guys think that is necessary? Any suggestions on where this noise can be coming from? I understand it can be anything and anywhere, I just need some help, I don't even want to drive my baby. Yes, it's that annoying! Thanks in advance. Jim
I have to go back to the dealership in the morning for them to have a "senior" tech take a look at it.

I have to go back to the dealership in the morning for them to have a "senior" tech take a look at it.
ask them if they have a set of "chassis ears". this is an electronic listening device with about 6 clip on microphones that they can clamp in numerous locations and switch between mics while driving and pinpoint a noise concern.
when they hear the noise louder on one of the mics, they can then reposition the other 5 into a closer proximity to the loudest noise and then diagnose the exact location of the problem.
this tool doesn't cost alot, but is easily broken, so most dealers have probably had one or more at one point, but it may be non functional, or else nobody wants to take the time to use it.
just a thought, instead of them ripping your truck apart and finding nothing.

chris

Sounds stupid, but could you have something under your seat that's making the noise?
Could somebody have put something like marbles in your gas tank?
Could it be a converter shield?
How about a lose brake line or shock?

Just got done checking the cats again, and the tranny mounts and crossmember mounts. All looks okay
I hope this isn't one of thoes things that never gets fixed. I can't take the rattling any more.

MR OLDV8,
It does not sound stupid because I'm so desperate. I checked under the seat and nothing, the jack is tight and so is all the compenents in the jact casing. Marbles in the gas tank is probably not the cause because I don't think it would shake the floor. Converter sheilds are all snug and not touching anything at all. Shocks all look tight and brake lines too. Thanks for the suggestions, please keep them rollin in....
