detination probelms

I have a 2000 Lightning and this summer I installed C&L Performance mass air, filter and chip kit. Truck ran great all summer and most of the fall but in the last two weeks I have been get detination at WOT. Have tried replacing gas and also tried a bottle of oct. boost and still having problem. I'm in MN wondering if they change fuel for winter or what? apreciate any help. Talk to C&L they said I'm first problem they have heard.

Colder weather can/will cause detonation as the PCM won't pull any timing out as the IAT sensor is 'seeing' colder temps. Some guys have a flip chip so that a less agressive timing curve can be programed on one side for winter or just street driving.

Octane boosters are almost worthless. They only raise the octane points by .10s(tenths) not full points, i.e. 93.4 oct. not 97 oct. You can increase the octane points with toluene or zylene that is available at Sherwin Williams paint stores. Or, you can use Torco Unleaded Accelerator.

I use it at the track instead of race fuel.

A cold weather program on your chip will take care of that.
