Angry blew the L up this morning

well not mine but my buddys. its an 01 with 24000miles. he was coming home from work and was racing a twin turbo 300 zx. when he just started pulling him good he said she just came apart. it put a hole in the block about the size of your fist. he had a 4# lower, 3# upper, cold air, ngks, and straight pipes and boost bypass and diablo chip. i'll to get some pics posted of the hole because its huge.

that sucks!!!.... I would look at it either two ways..... Good as in he can build it the way ford should have made it or if he doesnt have the money he can try his best to get it warantied!! Well wish him good luck either way! I hope it turns out good whichever route he takes....

You wouldn't happen to know where the chip came from would you?

If that is the case I think lots of trucks will have blown motors this season.

Has anyone ever kept track of boost with an upper and a lower pully.

When putting and upper pully on and going from 8 to 11 psi, I would think you would overdrive the blower by 1.375. Then going from 8 to 12 on a lower pully would be 1.5. The sum of the changes isn't 3 + 4, but 1.375*1.5=2.0625, which is the same as just putting on a lower of 8.5. I obviously don't know the diameters, but just going on the advertised numbers that would be the change.

People have gone bigger, but its still pretty big. Detonation will usually take out the pistons or heads. It was probably just a good old overloaded rod failure.

Easter,

From what I've noticed over time is that its not the boost alone that is the issue. I have noticed that it seems that if your chip is not tuned very carefully, when you start to push those levels, the higher boost, in consort with the peak rpm shift points and the effect of denser air on the fuel mix and pressure in the engine things can go wrong.

I would hope that the most of the guys running 6-7lbs or more have gone over, verified and are monitoring their AF's as the temp is dropping and have also DOUBLE checked what their chip shift points are set at.

I imagine running alot of boost in the cold without having AF checking gear you would might want to consider backing your shift points down 500 rpms or such.

With a 'chipped' L, you shouldn't run at WOT for a long(?) distance. Engs(rods) will let go. The chips are programmed for 1/4 WOT runs.
