00L specs to 01 hp

Since I plan on waiting for 05 L, thought I might slightly upgrade 00 to 01 hp. Seems I might have read on here a long time ago that computer could be modified to 01? If so, what would I need in addition to 90mm? Don't plan on changing axle ratio, but do plan on Billsteins. If this can be done would it affect my standard/extended warranty since dealership would do it? Lucky I have a good one at Team Ford with 2 good SVT techs! Any idea about cost for computer change? Thanks for any help guys!

if you haven't already, take the intercooler in for the recall. You will get the bigger one used in the 01's and 02's.

If you get the 90 mm. MAS you will need a chip. The intake hole in the fender and the intake box assembly were also modified for improved air flow

Thanks all for responses, but still don't know

about computer modification to 01 I read about on here some time ago? Seems like a number have added 90mm without making changes to fender, etc for air flow? If computer can be modified how about warranty issues in original post? thanks for driveshaft tip--didn't know that! Won't be changing rear end gears though. ANYBODY KNOW ABOUT COMPUTER MODIFICATION? thanks!

You can have your CUX2 reflashed to a CXN1, which will take care of the MAF issue, however , your speedo will be off unless you install some 3.73s.

does anyone know if the lower intake on 99-00 is changed when the intercooler recall is done? i have read that the 01-02 intercooler won't fit the older intake?

The lower intake is not replaced. The core is replaced with an 01 style, and to make it fit, Ford supplies a new mid plate, that goes between the lower intake and the blower.

jakemarietta,
Sorry dude, the recall ended Sept. 30th, 2002.

I think that it's about $800. $500 for parts and $300 for labor. I don't know for sure but I'm sure that somebody can give you the exact #'s.

Thanks Sal for your input, do you know

how off speedo would be without 3.73, or how much 3.73 to install (parts & labor since I'm mechanically handicapped)? Can dealer reflash to stated code without affecting standard/extended warranty? Ballpark idea of cost? Thought computer programs could be reflashed to accommodate changes in tire sizes, rearend ratio? If so, once basic reflash done couldn't adjustment be done for standard rear end which should have a slightly better top end and fuel economy? If 90mm ordered, you seem to indicate there might be a few additional parts needed for proper install or would they be included when ordering 90mm? Then I presume it would be easy to install one of your Fast Air kits at same time? Thanks for your response!

The dealer can reflash it for you. Whether they will or not is up to them. Technically going from CUX2 to CXN1 is not a calibration update because it requires parts on the vehicle to be changed. Your SVT dealer might understand why you want to if you say you just want to update your truck to 01 specs without using a chip. Hearing something like that may show them you are responsible about your truck and are asking for a legit, correct upgrade.

The speedo will only be a few mph off BUT, it will alter your shift points and it will alter your actual odometer reading, and that's against the law. A gear change should cost about $500 or so, for the 3.73s and the labor.

You will need the 90mm MAF and boot, and a matching stock or aftermarket 90mm filter setup.

Hope this helps.

Sal, just as every one says

you're the greatest! thanks for responding. I understand your point about 3.73 and keeping truck accurate and legal. If dealer will reflash and to keep them happy about doing it, would have them do 3.73 and buy 90mm from them and Fast Air from you. So as not to duplicate any parts, what are minimun 90mm parts, with numbers if you have them, to go with your Fast Air? Thanks! Presume you keep Fast Air's in stock, especially with season being nearly over?
