Sport Bike Run

Sport Bike Run
Yesterday on the way to work around 4 Am..I noticed a single beam in the rear veiw. It was moving fast..as I was running about 85...open road with No intersections and over a large section of water....I open it up...took him a bit to catch up. he slowly pulled by at over 140...I hung with him for a while...and then the curve...I caught him at 100 and went by..He must have lost his nerve....Looked like a recent model Suzuki..Silver blueish color with blue Japanese letters on the side ,front of fairing....
I was very happy with the Lightning...Wonder what the rider thought.

That was a Suzuki Hayabusa. They have 1300cc motors and I've heard they will go over 200 stock?! If you hung with him that's awesome. Ask beefcake about the Hayabusa's, he has one. That's awesome thought that you stayed with him. I'm sure he was a little disappointed. Or scared to open it up!

yah, sounds like a Busa. For 1999-2000, top speeds around 195 mph (electronically limited to 186 after), high 9s/ low 140s in the quarter, 175 crank horsepower stock.

He was either scared of the bike, or not willing to push it hard enough due to nighttime conditions or unfamiliarity with the road. Cornering the Busa at high speeds at night is pretty dangerous.

The Busa, in the right hands, will kill nearly every sports car ever made, especially in acceleration and roll-on races. Only a few cars can go faster than 195, but it will take em way longer to get to that speed. A drag racer on the Busa boards calculated it would take around 800 rwhp for a sports car to pull a Busa.

When the biker saw the curve, he probably let off, and gave up.

He must have been just cruising, not racing. All sport bikes can toast an L in the corners and on the straight. No doubt about it. I bet he was surprised though.

The 800 HP is with a stock convertor. A high stall convertor (5700 RPM) would only need something under 700HP.

As someone pointed out to me that 750HP with a 5700 RPM convertor on a 2000 LB car takes 0-60MPH in .9 seconds running low 8's.

From what I read the Busa runs 10.27 bone stock.

the gixxer is the fastest right now
then the ZX12
then the R1
then the Busa

Just wanted to clear that up.

check out this article busa vs blackbird

Busa breakin' the nines...

All those bikes are insanely fast, and you'll never get a straight answer as to which bike is the fastest/quickest. Lots of smack talk happens on the bike message boards; I was on the original Hayabusa boards when the ZX12 came a knockin'. Talk about flame wars and smack talk that still goes on today.

If you assume equal riders, the quickest stock bike is the Gix1000>ZX12>Busa (acceleration)

The fastest stock bikes are 99 Busa=00 ZX12>Blackbird>Gix1000
(top speed)

Of course, someone may have a different opinion, but that's what I've seen/heard/read/experienced.

Regarding the 800 rwhp thing, they based those numbers on street-driven sports cars weighing around 3000 pounds, such as the Viper, Mustang and Corvette. Heck, at the last Viper tuner shootout, they had 1000+ rwhp blown Vipers that were running low 10s.

I haven't run into too many street cars with 5000+ rpm stall converters I'd love to take em on a slow, leisurely drive through the neighborhood...

Are you sure cause when I bought my 02 R1 they ran it against the above bikes and mine came in 3rd. I really don't care if its 3rd, 4th or 2nd cause I'll never go that fast anyway draggin it. I bought it for the looks cause its buy far the sweetest looking in my opinion.

Have you ever heard of devil exhaust pipes before? I heard a sound clip and I loved the sound from them. Mine should be here tommorrow with the PCIII and undertail!!!

ZX12,
Our points are the same. No L's that I ever heard of are going to hang with any sport bike. Now that can be argued a little. the R6 claims 10.9 1/4 times. There are 2 L's in the high 10,s. I don't know about the top speeds on the 600's vs the L but NOS, Fuel, and Timing in the L can only run that way for so long. The bikes can just cruise at that high speed. Plus NOS will only last so long, then there is always that corner.

Anyways I would LOVE to run some neighborhoods w/a 5000 RPM stall convertor on anything. Plus just think at every light there would be this voice. hold back, hold back, hold back, I can't it's going to change, hold back, GREEEEEEEEEEEN!

It is a whole new world riding a sport bike at night. Roads here in NorthWest Arkansas that we normally ride near 100mph at night we run around 50-60. I'm not talking interstate here. That busa would destroy you in a 6th gear roll-on on the interstate. In fact I bet my Gixxer1K would leave you in 6th gear at any speed over 70. You may get a slight jump on me but I would be flying by soon enough. I took my 1K and my buddy took his CBR600F4I down to a bike fest here last weekend and ran them on a Dyno Drag. We did two 1/4 mile runs and one 1/2 mile run. Granted we were strapped to a dyno but the bikes are still crazy fast. Just check it out.

Different classes. They don't compare.

RT,

I put them it that order, as a compilation of all the different things I've read, seen, heard about, and raced over the years. Some mags will get different numbers than others (esp during the Busa vs 12 saga), drag racers will get different numbers, and no one ever seems to know who's better. I've raced my friend (with him on my R1, and me on either the 12 or Busa), and the R1 has always been defeated (but it's no slouch). But you have an 02 with EFI, so maybe it runs stronger.

Drag racers say that the R1 is a bad bike for drag racing, due to it's short wheelbase and suspension geometry (too easy to wheelie, and gets tankslappers easily), while the Busa is ideal for drag racing (long, low, lots of torque, stable). You have to really, really ride an R1 hard (and mod it too) to get it solidly into the 9s. R1s are best for the road-course.

I'm thinking about adding slip-on pipes, just to get that awesome sound...

Interestingly, a well-ridden, nearly stock 600cc bike can run 9 second quarter mile times, at 140 mph. Go to amaprostar, look under Records, 600 cc Supersport, then check out their rules. Only minor mods allowed, most of which can be found on the street. That's smokin fast!

Now, I'd love to see that 5000 rpm stall car run the Big Willow Springs race track (~2.5 miles, 9 turns) in under 1 min 26 seconds...slicks, skinnies and all

Believe me guys I have No delusions when it comes to keeping up with most bikes..I have a slow Buell that runs in the 11's.
My Lightning will take it on top end. Just an experience I thought I'd post. I owned one of the first 900 Ninja's. Hell it would be slow by todays standards..haven't had to pass any Pick Up Trucks at over 140 on a Bike yet.
