Jls street chip is garbage

I dynoed my truck last night and found 402 rwhp and 509 torque on stock computer with 5lb pulley. I had a Diablo JL street chip and it put out 401 rwhp and 493 torque. Johnny screwed me on that money . It actually slowed my truck down. I want my money back. I also had a race chip Johnny told me to use race gas with and it only made 417 rwhp what the f#*#... This should have been my street chip. Im tiried of tuners loading whatever program is closest to ours instead of actually burning one for that car. Just a warning for those guys buying chips, unless you get your truck on a dyno and can figure out air/fuel and timing your not getting what you paid for.. Sorry Johnny but youve reburned my chip so many times I could have bought the software myself.......

A few things don't make sense here:

1) There is no way you dynoed 302rwhp unless you were on a Mustang dyno........so what kind of dyno were you on?? I think your chip might not have been installed properly or something. No way you gain 100 hp from street/strip programs.

2) I think most people on here would be happy with 417 rwhp.......so what is your complaint??

Wait you picked up 100 RWHP and you are mad?

You might want to call Johnny and talk to him. I know that he will be more than happy to work something out with you

But I agree. Something does not make sense here

The only thing I want to work out is someone paying me back for some bogus chip tuning. I want my cash back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like I said again, not to bash Johnny, I know he plugs in programs like all the rest of them and i got what I paid for. I should have bought the software and did it myself....

If I were you I wouldnt complain about running 400HP-500TQ

Also I would be real careful about running your truck with a 5 lb pulley and the stock programs. The A/F is NOT going to be right with 5# of extra boost. You didnt post your A/f's but I bet you were lean as hell when you ran with no chip. If Johnny did his homework ( I bet he did ) you were running much safer A/F and timing with his chip.

Also as we get cooler weather running a 5# pulley and no chip is going to be more and more dangerous. You truck will not be pulling as much timing out with colder incoming air and you will start to see more people running om the ragged edge who are going to have motor problems if they dont have a safe cold weather tune...

Have you called Johnny about these issues ?? That would be the prefered 1st step.

Doug

How much does a reburn cost? Doesn't the software cost a couple of grand?

Before you get all hyped up and mad, I think the best thing for you to do first would be to call Johnny. From what I read of your post, I think you may have not posted it right... or I took something wrong. As someone else said, you might have made more power without the chip, but then again you were prolly running WAY too lean, and about ready to go boom. 1 less HP and a lot safer program.. I wouldn't complain. What do you have besides the 5#'er?

Naw, JB needs a hot chip. This way, when he throws a rod, we can all laugh at him. Dont be greedy dude. Oh, and if you had HALF the smarts , you would goto a damn dyno and have the chip CUSTOM tuned rather then to do an off the shelf program and bitch about it on on the dyno.

I ran a 12.0 on my JL street chip and I haven't had the truck on the dyno yet. You better give him a call and tell him exactly what you want. You may want to go over how much timing you want to run at WOT and where you want your air/fuels. I was only running 13 degree's timing and 10.8:1 air fuels w/ my street chip. I would rather run conservative on the chip and be a tenth or two slower.

Remember, you are only going to squeeze so much power out of a chip. Go buy some more performance parts for your truck if you want more power. You can then have the chip burned to accomdate the extra boost, etc.

5lb pulley and no chip

That is ballsy.

It is always the better to trade a little power to be more safe.

And, a 15 hp increase from street to race is pretty good.

I still don't understand why this is sooo ballsy. To me a 5# lower and and chip is more ballsy. A chip leans out the stock program and gives you even more timing. So IMO a stock program is the safest way to drive any boost level. I ran a 4# lower and all my other mods last winter in MI (read>>very cold) without a chip and had no problems.

My buddy ran a 6# lower with the same results as me.

Maybe we were just lucky

Agreed but ...
A chip leans out the stock program and gives you even more timing.
Not always. Chips can do a number of things, if you want more timing and lean it out then you can have that. If you want it rich and timing pulled you can have that.

I should have clarified that to include a chip tuned safely for the pulley, not a chip for more power.

Some of you got more ***** then i do. You run the chip to add fuel and keep those A/F's down below 11.5, esp with a 5 or 6lb pulley!

IMO........12.0 is perfection

FYI.......stock 2001-2002 L's are around 11.8
