Anyone had problems with their front calipers coming off?

I heard a noise that started last night and thought it might have been drivetrain related. I couldn't figure it out though and then today I heard it again and jumped out of the truck after the noise kept happening while I was breaking. Lo and behold, my caliper on the driver side front is just resting on top of the brake, easily moveable by hand. I coaxed it back to work without any problems. Hopefully a dealer can fix it for me this late in the day since it should only take a couple minutes to repair. Is this a common problem?

Caliper resting on the brake??? Need a better description. A loose caliper would probably make more noise.

Yeah, it's still in place, but loose. Whenever I hit the brakes, I get a small "clunk" like the caliper is slamming into the brake. Not exactly sure what it's hitting up against though.

Um....

Do the SVT's have the same brake set up as a 4x4? If so do you mean the caliper is loose in the cradle that it sitting in?

If so don't drive it eh, the last thing you need is for it to get wedged and lock up as your flying down the highway or something.

Can you say spinny thing!!

Ya thats scary ***** when that happens. On my Blazer the left front caliper came off on the highway once. It flew out the wheel and under my car but i almost rolled over when i started to ease on the brakes and it pulled. I had to use the emergency brake shifted the transmission down.

Holy!!

Man that would tighten up the toothless wonder for awhile eh?

I have a rating scale for stuff like that, its called the Sphincter scale.

Almost smacking your head on your hood when you stand up is like a 1 or 2

Your girlfriend walking by the restaurant your in with another girl is like a 4 or 5

Someone holding a gun to your head is like a 8 or 9

I figure loosing a caliper would be like a 7 on the pucker scale for sure.

Gets the heart pumping though eh!!

There should be an upper and lower bolt/slider pin....These calipers float..instead of the disk. There is a rubber boot that seals the pin from weather....the pads have upper and lower guides built into the caliper braket..Maybe the pins were letf out or backed out...
