New Cobra, or keep Lightning ?

Okay, give me your opinion......
My dealer has a brand spanking new 2003 (black) Cobra with my name on it. All I need to do is sign the papers and drive it away.
Yes, he is giving me A-plan on it.
Problem is that I need to sell my Lightning, which will not be hard as there are 2 people who will give me what I want for it.
Now to compound the problem. I went to the local 1/8 mile track yesterday to meet up with some friends and decided to run her
thinking it may be the last chance I have to do so.
It ran 8.15 and 8.17's at 86mph all day long which is more consistant than it has ever run.
Give me your honest opinions, should I keep the Lightning or buy
the Cobra ?

Marc

If you don't want the Cobra, I will take it ... as long as they give me X-plan.

IMO, I like the Cobra for ripping around town and the truck for racing. If you want to go really fast for cheap...not including the price of the vehicle...go w/ the Cobra. If you want comfort, to haul stuff, and not have to bang gears to race...keep the L. I was in the same place you are a few weeks ago. I decided to keep the L.

Personally I think the current mustang, cobra included, is ugly as sin...not too far from the aztec...but that is a personal taste thing. If you are into huge fake scoops and that sort of thing go for it. I would get one if I could get past the styling. Of course, it will probably be useless in the rain...where the lightning is awesome. Prolly less comfortable for a daily driver, less comfortable on long trips and you can't tow anything with it nor carry a lot.

But it is dam fast...and sometimes that is all it takes.

Keep your Bolt.
Reasons:
1. Auto Tranny (convenient)
2. Versatility of a truck
3. Still faster than most cars on the road.
4. "There's something women like about a pick-up man"

Have you spent much time in the latest generation Mustang? I just bought an '03 Gt, and it feels really small inside the car. For daily use, and if I could only have one, I'd stay with the L.

I don't like the looks of the Cobra that much, the hood and rear spoiler look bad IMHO. The wheels are so-so.

I highly recommend you test-drive your Cobra before making a purchase decision. I had one on order and took back my deposit after the test drive. Bottom line is, the L was a lot more fun to drive so I kept it.

1. I can't believe I am hearing someone say that an auto is a plus on an enthusiast board. Sure its nice in bumper to bumper traffic...but slushboxes definitely takes a lot of the fun out of driving.
2. Agree
3. Agree
4. Would be nice...but that is definitely not true. Most chix don't dig trucks, well maybe they do down in kentucky or alabama or something.

Very interesting feed back. Thanks to all that responded.
I guess I left a little information out, in not letting you all
know that I have another truck, a 4 x 2 Supercrew with several
modifications, that is my daily driver. So loosing the ability to haul
fire wood. or pull the trailer was never an issue.I guess I can agree with Chippers view point on women and the truck guy thing as my wife would rather drive my Supercrew than her Expy.
And after all of the 60's and 70's muscle cars I have gone through in my 52 years, I have to admit that the Lightning has been by far
one of the most enjoyable vehicles I have ever owned.
With this in mind, I have just finished talking to the dealer and have told him that I will NOT be in to see him any time soon.
Guess me and the Lightning have bonded and I am looking forward to a long and meaningful relationship.
I wonder what I could run with lets say a 100 HP shot??

Thanks again

Marc

Well, I've always been a fan of Stangs...but this body design is starting to look really dated to me (same style since about 1994). I would wait until the redesigned model comes out in 04? and see if ya like that. Nothing worse than buying a new car and 1 year later it looks ancient compared to the new ones driving around. Of course, if you really love the style of the current one go for it.

I thought there was a body style change in 99. My Brother in law has a 95 and it looks different than my friends 99. Maybe they did a body style change in only a few states, which could account for a 94 in California looking the same as a 2003 in New York. While Tennessee got ripped off and we had to put up with a body style change.

Smile Same choice, same decision

I had the option of getting an '03 Cobra on D Plan (similiar to A plan, FYI) and IMHO, the clutch on the '03 Cobra is too heavy for daily driving. Also, after driving the Cobra for a few miles, I remembered all the details that I disliked about the current Mustang platform, namely lack of front seat travel and poor seatbelt design.

I also thought the Cobra was too quiet! I like the exhaust sound of the L, plus the overall functionality as a daily driver made my decision very easy.
