Chip Issue? Or something else?

Im sure this issue has been covered, and I did search but couldnt find my particular situation. So, here is a new post.

I just recieved and installed a chip in my 01. Followed install to a T, started up beautifully and took her for a short drive. After noticing no problems I picked up a buddy to go for a ride. We ride out a ways to a stretch of empty farmland road to test out the program. So I roll it out and nail it, at the top of third gear, about 100 I feel what I had assumed to be the rev-limiter. It was reving pretty high, so I assumed that was the case. Lights were still on but I wasnt getting any response. Truck essentially shut-down, after a few seconds the interior lights went off except for the battery light, and service engine soon. I lost all power, noticed I lost power steering. Put it in park and started right back up.

It occured again yesterday, merging onto the highway, nailed it and felt it again...same deal, power was on long enough to get to the shoulder, then it totally shut down. Started right back up though.

Could this be a fuel issue? Cloged filter? Lean condition? Plug problem? I dont have a pulley, only chip filter and tb. Im a little miffed about what this could be from. Should I just contact my tuner?

Sorry for the long post, just worried.

Keith

Did you tape the chip in after you installed it? It could be moving and losing contact.. Make sure you duct tape it in there good....JR

Yeah, I have a big piece of duct tape over it. I will drive it mildly tomorrow, and then verify all connections on Tues. If need be I will take it to the shop for plugs/fuel filter. I have a tire problem anyway.

Thanx

I don't believe it's worn plugs or it would be hard to start. It very well could be a partially clogged fuel filter as you would notice this at WOT and not so much at lesser throttle openings. How many miles on the filter?

If you don't mind my asking, what brand is the chip, and who did you purchase it from?

I have about 18,000 miles on the fuel filter. Usually they are recomended for every 30,000mi. But it could be a cheap solution.

About the chip, I would rather not say actually. I don't want this to become a tuner war, and I know people with all brands and tunes have problems with chips. It is however one of the major tuners.

Golly, didn't think I was inciting a tuner war. Pretty sad when we can't openly discuss the pros/cons of any one brand of chip or tuner. As owners, we need to remember, they depend on us to buy the products they customize, and we depend on them to do the R & D for a profit. If there is a pattern that develops after the fact, we/they will never know if we don't share. I always thought that was the primary purpose of such a forum.

Keith, Keith!!: Not 30,000 miles on the fuel filter! Don't let it last past 15,000 miles. Just ask CornerCarver...............
