Defective Chip?

Curious as to whether any of you have ever experienced a defective chip. Not talking of one that fails over time, but does not function upon delivery. I know, the most obvious question would be whether I cleaned the contacts, but after six attempts and six cleanings, I believe that one is covered. Truck runs fine with the chip out, however once it's installed, the theft light flashes and the truck will not start. A bit frustrating.

Its more possible that it has the wrong box code tuned on the chip than the chip being bad. Call the tuner and make sure its tuned for your particular box code.

What year is your truck...99 ? Have you been to dealer recently for work ?

there have been reports of dealers flashing 99-cux1 PCM to CUX2.

I know sixpipes wouldnt start with his old chip.. We put mine in and it fired right up...

Thanks for the rsponses, but according to the box, the chip is the right one (Diablo) for my 2002 "L". Fits tight, getting contact, as far as I can tell. Just don't work.........

Sometime the chip will not accept the program, it is like when you try to save something on your computer. It allmost allways works, but once in a great while, you hit save, then you go look for it later and it is not there.

It can happen when the tuner goes to flash the chip, once in a great while, it just doesn't store the program.

Now that makes sense to me. I've installed chips before, so I know of the importance of cleaning the contacts. This chip, however appears dead as a door-nail..........

I'm just saying, I thought my contacts were clean the first FEW times I installed my chip in my dearly departed HD. Alas, I was mistaken. Maybe one more try...for the Gipper!

Sounds like your truck has been "reflashed" We have had 3 trucks come to our shop and have the exact same symptoms. 1 customer gave up, the other 2 sent their ECM's to Superchips to be "read" and they came back with the chips matched to the computers and all was well. May be something to look into.

By reflash I'm assuming you mean the truck's computer has recently visited a dealer who "upgraded" or "read" the computer. Mine has three thousand miles, and has not seen the dealer since picking it up. I know the obvious answer is to re-clean the terminals, but if I scrub them any harder, there won't be much left. All of the contact surfaces (including the gaps in between) are spotless and the terminals shine like newly minted pennies.

Well, I was going to discuss this mystery with the tuner who programmed the chip, unfortunately they/he are out of town for the rest of the week. Guess I'll find out next week. Thanks for the input.
