Thumbs down I have a problem with my new L!!

I only have about 2k miles on my new truck and I already have a problem. I can't drive the speed limit. Sometimes it's about 40 mph over. I also have problems with taking off too fast at stop lights and barking the tires. I can allready tell that these tires aren't going to last more than 10,000 miles. Lastly, my truck makes a whinning noise from the engine when I punch it. This happens a lot, but the noise is starting to grow on me. Do any of you have these same problems? All in all, these trucks are BAD A$$. I can't believe I waited this long to get one.

I bought my 2001 L used with 7500 miles, the tires were the ones that came with the truck new. I am at 1300 miles now and they still have about 50-60% tread left........is something wrong with me?

PhillipSVT, the chip and filter made a BIG difference. The shift points are nice and hard and it felt like it was really pulling more after the shift into second. I bought a G-Tech and without the chip and filter I ran a 5.79 sec 0-60 and a 14.33 quarter mile. With the chip/filter I ran a 5.27 and a 13.71. This was with a hot engine and outside temp of 80.

For the money it is worth it. Make sure you get it from a good tuner. Go to www.f150online.com/vendors.cfm. Pick a tuner and get it. I bought the Superchip.

P.S. I had a problem installing the chip. Turned out that I wasn't cleaning it good enough. I think JDM has a webpage with good instructions. Good Luck!

I installed chip and filter (AF1) this weekend too. The chip went in well enough, the filter was a pain in the rear though. I couldn't get that damn bracket to hold the filter in place to act right. I ended up using zip ties...yes zip friggin ties until I can get someone to fabricate something better.

I would be careful about boasting your G-tech meter times, sure on the box it says that they're pretty accurate. But lets be serious, you have first get the sensor to be level and then if you at all change the level of that sensor during the run then your screwed...I own one and think its a great product, but don't write your book by it

I just put on the (AF1) filter and a superchip about a month ago on my 01L, it made a HUGE difference. However I did not have any problem with the filter. I must admit that it is one of the biggest filters I have ever seen

I must admit that it took me a while to connect the last bracket that holds the filter close to the inner side of the fender by the cruise control module. However since then its been pretty secure.

Again though I think a chip and filter is probably the 2 best mods for these beasts.

That sounds like a serious problem!!!

You better drive your truck down here and let me borrow it for a few months so I can see if I can find the problem for you.

When I first got the truck, I didn't think it was all that strong. I was told, it may loosen up with time. Even after putting the chip and filter in, it doesn;t seem a noticeable difference. When I put chip and filter in my HD, it may a huge, noticeable difference. Any ideas?

D*** Spankdog!! When I read your initial response, I thought I had answered. I bought my 2001 L used with 7500 miles and I have just under 13K now

As for driving over the speed limit, I won't do it. Maybe 5 over, but that's it. Oh, the temptation is there, but I have wanted an L for 10 years and having been able to get one recently if I get a ticket it will have to go and that is unacceptable. I accelerate quickly up to the speed limit. I'll save the rest for the track.

I'm not boasting my G-Tech times, actually I think they are kind of slow. I was trying to show Phillip a comparison of times. The only reason I got the g-tech was to compare my times from stock. As long as you are running in the same conditions, I feal the G-Tech is accurate for comparing times. As far as how accurate the times are, I will have to take it to the track.
