E-fan help

I got my e-fan yesterday and before I start shredding knuckles, my repair book says you need Ford tool "this "and Ford tool "that " which of course I don't have. I know you guys don't have them either, soooo what and how did you get your fan off???

ALL tips and tricks greatly appreciated, thanks...JR

Not sure what ford tools your thinking of, I know they suggest the tool for removing your OEM fan but mine came off real easy. I don't know if your 5.4 is the same as the SuperCrew 5.4 but if it is, the fan has regular right hand threads not left hand threads that are reported alot around this site. I used an 18" adjustable wrench to remove the fan and it came right off. Other than that I can't think of what other FORD tool you would need. Good Luck

Tim,
it's the Flex-a-lite 270 dual electric fan. I bought it "almost new" you know how I seem to do that.... JR

S'CrewLoose,
thanks... it says there is a special wrench to hold the fan clutch and another wrench to un-bolt the fan....

just more Ford "propaganda" I suppose......

JR,

Yep, you'll find a bargain, that's for sure!

Try going to JDM's site and look at their installation instructions for their fan. It shows the whole process which might differ from yours but the removal of the original fan will be the same. It worked for me, easy install. Time consuming but easy.

When I took my clutch fan off this is what I did.

I took a big vice grip and tightened it around the water pump shaft. Then I used a big adjustable wrench on the bolt on the fan to break it loose, just push the adjustable wrench towards the passenger side of the truck.

Here is a pic of the threads you can see what direction it goes on, or off

One more tip to remove the stock fan shroud, remove the top transmision line on the drivers side of the truck. This will allow you to get the shroud out a lot easier.
