Losing power on top end

I seem to notice at the track lately that from the 1/8 to the 1/4 my truck seems to fall flat on its a$$.I will be going along fine but it does not seem to pull hard.My MPHs have dropped and my times are also suffering.
Any suggestions-
These are a few of the things I will be looking at-
1.See if the plugs are fouled
2.Belt slippage.(although it does not feel it)
3.Everything is tight.nothing loose.

Any suggestions would be appreciatred

It pulls good off the line but just does not seem to pull hard through the whole 1/4.

Thanks
VINNIE

Vinnie, 9 times out of 10, that exact symptom is a burned plug. I suggest you pull all 8. If for nothing, at least you'll have the piece of mind.

I say plugs to.

Vin - it's a shame I couldn't watch you run though to see if any thing looked odd or sounded off.

Wouldn't hurt to change the fuel filter as well, if its been a while.

Beat me to it! A clogged fuel filter will show up as a reduction in top end power as your eng. is trying(needs) to use every gram of fuel and the filter may be withholding some of the fuel and creating a pressure drop too.

It has been changed twice in 16,000 miles and has been O.K. each time.
Thanks for the suggestions.

You're only running on 7 cylinders ??? <grin>

My MPH dropped back to about 101-102 when the
plug was bad ....

Yo Vinnie

I was talking to Jim today about something else, he asked me what was new on the boards so I told him about your post. He said to stop into the shop if you want and Richie will change you plugs for you.

Cool

If the easy stuff does'nt turn out to work. You might look for any plug-ups in the exhaust sys. If I'm not mistaken you can measure the backpressure upstream of the cats. Or at least I've heard of Ford dealerships doing this.

Just a long shot, but it's a possibility. WOT
