Our new Boss 5.4
In order for a vehicle to gain in value it has to have 2 things be in demand ( rare ) AND be popular. They go hand in hand. To be popular means that people have fond memories of the X car they drove or saw when they were a kid and always wanted one... " Dad had a 57 Chevy Belair in the garage and never let me drive it so I bought one for myself "
There are thousands of rarer models and types that never became valuable because they were not in demand - they never were popular enough...
May be if my uncle Hugo
makes a movie about the Boss 5.4 and it becomes a cult icon it will have value in 30 years...
I doubt it ....

I think you missed my point. The truck as an F-150 is made and painted by Ford. But the Boss 5.4 package is not made by Ford. Just like a Saleen Mustang is a Mustang built by Ford, but it's a Saleen built by Saleen, and sold through Ford. It's not a Ford model, like the Lightning is, it's an aftermarket built model. I'm not saying thats a bad thing, I'm just saying the truck is not going to have the value that a Lightning will in 10 years.
I'm not trying to be rude and argue with you, I just thought it was kind of dumb to by such an expensive and neat looking truck, only to never drive it. But if that's what floats your boat, so be it
.
Oh, and as for you subtle taunting of the Lightning owners here about you having a Boss and we don't, well, there's a reason for that and it has nothing to do with money
.

My wife likes some stupid looking ceramic figurines she has on a shelf. I think they are ugly and take up space. They aren't worth anything and never will be. It is like that with your truck. You love it and will leave it parked, not driven with the window sticker still on the window. I think it would be a waste of space and a really poor investment. It is your choice and you may do what you choose with your money. Enjoy ownership.
I think what Sal is getting at is what seem to inconsistancies. You shouldn't jump on him, he's a good guy.

This is funny stuff.
Different strokes, for different folks.
If I were spending that kind of money I would want the performance. That's me though.
They build so many freaking vehicles these days, they are all worth crap after a few years.
Drive it while you can. Mod it. That's the fun part of owning a Ford truck!

??????????????????????? POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As an owner of an 02 Harley, 01 L, 94 Indy Pace Car and 93 Teal Cobra. I figured I'd pitch in with my humble opinion. I drive my cars, ALL of them cause I like them and I enjoy them. Sure I take them to shows, but mostly to share them with friends and have a good time.
What makes a collectible is in FACT that they ARE factory built, as someone mentioned earlier, NOT simply Factory approved.
Of course there are exceptions, Shelby is the BEST one that comes to mind. If all it took was "factory authorized", then I better hurry and get one of the spiffy Shelby GT350 V6 Mustangs that some company is making, with approval of using the Shelby name, BTW.
As to simply going by build quantity to measure collectability, well hell, I better go find me a YUGO at a junkyard somewhere.
Finally to my fellow Harley owner that chimed in. No doubt, the first Model was definitely one of the nicer Harley F150s. But, people don't go looking for a 260 V8 or 6 cyl 65 Stang, when they have 68 Shelby GT500's with 428CI of THUMP. Motor is a HUGE factor in determining value down the road. Check out a HEMI Cuda vs one of their scaled back V8's.
Finally, all of us must try to move beyond Fantasy world in hoping that out cars will be collectibles. The reason some of the cars from the 1950-60's are collectible now, besides SOME of them having low production #'s, is that the owners didn't know what they had, so many of the cars DIDN'T survive. Heck, my brother-in law PAID someone $50 to tow away his 65 K-code Fastback Mustang. Now EVERYONE is a prospector looking to find Gold, so the chances are that there will be TONS of these "collectibles" available by the time they are considered antiques.
Enjoy the dang cars, maintain them well, and if you like them keep them forever, you can ALWAYS restore them.

"My wife and I are just laughing our ____ off, the Lightning guys are so passionate about telling us what a POS we have almost 500 views in 3 hours...HMMMM gee I wonder... "
........wow, all these views of your post, so you assume all these "Lightning" guys are just so curious about and jealous of your so called "Boss"???! Personally, i clicked on it to see why someone would buy one. But like someone said earlier, we already know what they are, or better yet, what they aren't. And if anyone wanted one on here they would have bought one.And thats why they didn't. But, to each, their own. Be proud of your Ford, it just seemed like you bought it for the wrong reason.

My wife drives a Chevy Suburban and has stupid figurines on a shelf. I still love her. I hope she doesn't read this post and get some dumb idea that a Boss 5.4 will be worth some money someday and request that I buy her one.
She just read this and laughed.
