Chip vs. EEC Code
There are several chips for Lightnings on Ebay, and most of them list the EEC code, such as CUX2. Do I have to use a chip with a code that matches my EEC? If I buy a chip that does not match, can it be reburned to work?

In fact if you buy a chip of ebay, I would 100% suggest you send it to whichever tuner tunes that chip for a reburn, just be safe.
Hi 01,
Here's the catch code breakdown:
CUX1 is for the 1999 Lightnings, CUX2 is for the 2000's, CXN1 is for the 2001's, and ABU2 is for the 2002's.
Since your truck is a 2001, you need the CXN1 catch code. Any used Lightning chip you find should be able to be reprogrammed if it doesn't match your code. I also heartily agree that any chip for a Lightning you buy used from Ebay like that (and just about anywhere else) be reprogrammed specifically for your vehicle and whatever it's modifications are, otherwise you may never know what program is really inside that chip. Unless you get the chip for next to nothing used, you may not be getting much of a bargain buying used Lightning chips due to the expense to reprogram them to insure safe operation on your vehicle.
If you happen to find one that was originally purchased from us here at Performance Products, call us & we can tell you what's in it based on who you bought it from (make sure to get the original purchaser's full name!), etc., we can look all that up in our records.
One last comment is, you've got an expensive & rare factory supercharged hot-rod there, why try to scrimp on that kind of vehicle buying a used chip?!? It's generally a "false" economy in a Lightning, unless you get lucky. You're almost always better off buying new and getting the tuning you actually need and a Lifetime warranty as well, but that is of course up to you, & best of luck whatever you decide.
If you have any questions on this, you can give us a call.
