Unhappy Anyone ever busted their throttle return spring?

So it's lunchtime; and I'm getting on the freeway trying to get around this geezer doing about 25mph. I punch it and then immediately hear this clunk and feel my foot drop a little. I take my foot off the gas; but the pedal stays stuck a couple of seconds and I keep accelerating. I lightly put my left foot on the brake and bang the gas a few times with my right. The revs start to drop, I start slowing; and then pull over. I pop the hood and find that the throttle return spring is hanging from only one end. The other end is missing the "hook." I see that the throttle body itself has a return spring; so I gingerly drive to dealer about 1/2mi. away. They say they have to get the part from Detroit; but give me a generic spring to get by with for now. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

Thumbs up

Good question. Using the simple feature with keywords “throttle and spring” yielded two responses titled:

Throttle Tension Spring Broke!!!!

Broken throttle return spring

Click the above and enjoy. You might try it for yourself in the future…..

I believe that the NHRA requires the throttle have two(not counting the one 'wrapped' around the throttle shaft) return springs for safeties sake.
