Thumbs up Prothane bushings installed!

What I did:
Repalced all the front control arm bushings with Pro-Thane bushings. Added Herbs washers. Added Cam bolts. got a full alignment.

First the good news: Man what a difference. Straight from the parking lot the truck feels MUCH more solid. Clunck is completely gone and I feel more confident in turns (very surprising coming out of driving my 2000lb race car around the city).

Now the bad news:
Bushings:$70
OEM replacement bsuhings (for the sleeves):$150
sleeving the Prothanes:$100
Install and align:$500

OUCH.

I'd really recommend Omni brake and alignment in Kirkland, WA for our Seattle folks. They are VERY knowledgable and I felt fine leaving them my baby. (thanks Jon!)

definite winter project!!

Coldie,

All the parts are on my shelf waiting(begging) to be installed.

I'm pondering just burning the stock rubber bushings out and pressing in the Prothane units with a monster vice instead of using a replacement set of sleeves and taking the suspension pieces to a machine shop.

Labor intensive mod any way you slice it, DIY or shop install.

Thoughts?

Bob

Pretty surprising how much difference it makes. Bob you can DIY, the only part I had to have done was pressing the old bushings out of the control arms and press in the new ones. Aside from that it is about a 4-6 hour project.

yup.

Very labor intensive. I went with the extra set of bushings so I could take my time.

I'm going to call the shop and see if they still have my stock bushings, if they do, do you want them?

No original parts...

The shop wasn't gentle since they knew that they didn't need to save the original bushings...

I really wish ford would have them come this way. It doesn't seem to effect ride quality negatively at all.

Coldie,

I appreciate the offer. but I have a spare set of OEM bushings that may end up in the classifieds.

Gator,

I think Ruslow mentioned having urethane bushings. Might want to double check with him to confirm.

JCWhitney also carries them.

Stock #: D3208
Part #: 91-3081-x
Price: $55.95
