Lightning Value

How much are used lightning's going for these days? I have a 2001 Lightning I'm about to list for sale and I'm kind of stumped on what a good asking price would be. KBB says $29k for private party sale but that sounds kinda high to me. Scumbag dealer only offered me $23,500 for trade in. He said that's all they're going for at auction. Is it unreasonable to ask and get $27k on a 01 L?

Then what sounds reasonable? I'm asking because KBB and NADA don't seem to be inline with the current market. If I can't get anymore than $25k for it then I might as well give it to the dealer for $23,500.

used lightnings

Well, the going rate of used lightnings around here are astronomical. I checked one at a Ford dealer here in S. Cali. and they were wanting $34,995. 2001 14k miles. They weren't a SVT dealer, but I mean realistically, would anyone want a used lightning for more than a NEW lightning? $32,815 msrp and that's what most of the SVT dealers here are asking. I see the kelly blue book as a GUIDE, not law. But dealers around here are wacked in the head. Everything is blue book this and blue book that. Another dealer had a 2000 with 44k asking $31,995. The autotrader around here has people asking $34k-$38k for used ones too. I guess if someone fell off the turnip truck... BTW, what area are you in? My opinion, I'd buy a used 2001 for around $25k.

$27,000 doesn't sound TOO high for an '01.
You need to give more details about your truck. Are there any aftermarket parts on it, how many miles, details of condition.....

I'm in the Houston area and yes I do have aftermarket parts on it. Diablo chip, JL 3# Pulley, and JL Ram Air. The truck also has a fiberglass tonneau cover made by SnugTop. The truck is white and has 16100 miles on it as of today. Sounds like So Cali is getting raped in the auto market. Took me forever to find a dealer that would sell me a 03 Cobra for MSRP around here.

Try NADA and Edmunds for a more realistic estimate. Kelly's is way high.

ehh..

In my area, South and Central Florida I can pick up used Lightning all day for $27k. Many of the 99'-2000 are in the $24k range and I spot 01-02's for about $27k most of the time.
Good luck with selling your truck though.

I'm selling my '01 Mustang GT, and both Edmunds and NADA were around $500.00 more than what KBB quoted me.

Which is a good thing for me... I'm asking just below KBB, so if it is lower than Nada and Edmunds too-- I should be safe.

$27,000 for a used 01 L seems high to me I paid $29,234 for a new 02.

How long are you willing to wait for your L to sell? 2 months? 4 months? 6 months? If you can wait sell it yourself, it might take awhile but it's a better way to go.

Thanks for the auction prices Player. The dealership offered me $23,500 for the trade and said that's all they were getting them for at auction. I thought that sounded kinda low. Especially since they had a 2002 on the floor with a $33,050 sticker. I have about 3 weeks to try and sell it or decide to give it to the dealer. I thought I could get more for it if I sold it myself. Goofy dealerships are killing the value of our vehicles with this 0% financing.
