HELP - Problem with #1 cylinder - Sal, techs, anyone......

I posted a while back about my stock #1 plug having alot of white deposits. It might have had a bit of oil in the threads also - not sure...

Just pulled out the #1 TR6 after about 300 or so miles, and its starting to build up just like the stock one, and might have had a little oil also in the threads. I was hoping it was just a bad stock plug, or the coil pack. But it is not. (Just checked coil pack)

Could it be the injector? That is my only other idea other than a internal seal is leaking oil..........(WHICH IS NOT GOOD)

BTW I took out #2 also, and it is not burning all that good. It is starting to turn white on the ground (NOT deposits like #1, but just doesnt look too good)......Are they too cold for daily street driving that usualy never sees over 5 psi of boost? I have TR5's I could try if anyone thinks the TR6's sound like they are running too cold........

ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED, THANKS

..........I just hope it doesnt have to go to the dealer............. :o

Question Whats the cause?

Does anyone know what causes white deposits to build up on a plug?JBL do you have a pic?

Well, I don't suggest TR6s for +4 psi, they are too hot in my opinion, so take that for what it's worth. Going to a TR5 would be a mistake since they are even hotter. Plugs can look "lean" from not being the right heat range. As you increase boost, cylinder pressures rise, which raises cylinder temperatures. The plug heat range must be matched to that new boost level or else it can't dissipate the heat to the head fast enough, and the plug overheats. It could also be your tune, but since it's not my chip, i have no idea whats on there, so I can't if it is or not.

I am more worried about a possible oil leak in #1 than what heat range my plugs are at or what chip I'm using..............

And I hardly ever see the 4+ psi extra boost during daily driving. Usually never goes over 4 to 6. I might foul out a set of colder plugs.

Sorry, I thought you were concerned with your plugs being white. If you are burning oil past the rings or vavle seals, your plug(s) would be oil fouled and would be brownish, and wet looking. Hope this helps.

I'm mostly worried because this is happening in just one cylinder........and something is obviously wrong if that one plug starts to look like this:

By the picture it says oil leakage

Is it maybe a lean or rich condition just in that plug?

Maybe I just need a new fuel filter??

Here is the 'script' from the spark plug pic you copied:

The accumulation of deposits on the firing end is influenced by oil leakage, fuel quality and the engine's operating duration.

Do you do a lot of short trips, therefore not allowing the plug(s) to burn off any deposits? If you don't drive long enough to get everything 'hot' enough, now coupled with a colder plug, plug deposits can form. I know, "Why on just the no. 1 plug?"

Another 'long shot'..."oil leakage"--could you be burning oil from the intake adaptor? Remove the rubber bbot from the th/body and see if any oil is around the blades/bore.

I ordered a 4#'er from you a month ago and it was recommended that I purchase the TR6's to go along with it. Just trying to understand. Thanks

Question th/body oil

If oil were getting in the th/body(which happens on alot of lightnings) would it show up on the #1 plug?

Unhappy JBLsilver01

Did you find out the problem yet?
My 01 did the same thing on #7 cyl. It has progressivly gotten worse as far as power goes. The dealer checked everything!
Including compression test! Everything checked out ok! I talked them into changing the coil pack and injector on that cyl. Seems to be better, but still not quite right!!
I do not have enough miles on it to read the plugs yet, should be sometime next week!
If anyone has any other ideas, Please let us know!!!

Albert
