Types of gas

I know that ford suggests that you use premium only gas, but we all know that premium is pretty expensive, especially in southern california. It can be up to a 1.90 a gallon, if not more! Anyone here use regular unleaded and maybe just fill up once a month or more with premium, any problems with this? My other car is a lincoln L.S and it is recommended that it be given premium only, but regular unleaded has not affected it so far, at least to a point that I can tell.

My wife used my truck once and put the wrong gas in it ran like a p.o.s. I put some octaine boost in and that helped. If you get the truck you know you wont be able to leave it alone. So if you do a chip you will need to run high octaine. Not to be rude but if you are worried about the gas this is the wrong truck for you..Good luck on whatever you decide...

When you have very limited funds and are in highschool, it tends to become a problem after a while (I can completely afford the lightning, im just bein a little pansy about the gas thing cuz I have never owned a car/truck in my family that was so high performance that it needed premium, so to me its expensive considerin the trucks m.p.g)

After having my first car totaled 2 weeks before a magazine shoot (first blazer xtreme in california) by some drunk bitch, then getting a used 99 gt mustang but trading it in because i got cramped in it (im a farely large fellow), now owning an 02 explorer sport im getting tired of the damn v6. No point in modding the engine because its still a v6 and will not meet up to the lightning and eventually cost more to mod! I get about 200 miles a tank with this gas guzzler and fill it up about 3 times a week, just hoping that when I get the lightning it will be a bit better than that! As for gettin a rice rocket, NEVER!!! I have gotten in about 2 fights with little rocketears because I can't stand the sound of their little yuban coffe can exhausts! When I go to shows I try and keep myself away from them because I am always tempted to kick their exhausts for having the muffler sticking all the way out the rear end! I have test driven the lightning and was allowed to punch it, wow, dunno if I can keep myself from doing it all the time! But if it means saving money on gas than you better believe that I will be able to stop myself (except when I'm smoking some little 4 bangin uncle bens rice mobile)!

Whatever you do, dont skimp on gas. If you do, watch out:

That is part of a piston after running a chip tuned for 100 octane and not running 100 octane. This is an extreme situation but it just shows you what running the wrong(regular) gas can do.

If you're even remotely concerned about the extra cost of premium unleaded then stay away from an L.

New out of the box you're going to get 11.5 MPG. After it all breaks in and you slap a tonneau cover (it honestly helps) and you use Mobil1, you might get 12.5 to 13. Long runs on the freeway to Palm Springs and you might actually get 17.

Oh, and an oil change with Mobil1 and the Mobile 1 filter will run you about 70 bucks.

What might help is that recently Unical 76 got rid of MTBE. I remember back when I had my Lexus and MTBE was introduced my mileage dropped considerably...now that 76 no longer has it mileage should improve.

Just fill up when ever you see a good price. In in Lost Angeles prices vary by a pretty wide margin. I filled up in Malibu theother day at 1.99 (it was 2.99 for full service )

Here in the P.V. area it's 1.77 at the Chevron station I go to, but there is a 76 station in Torrance that has premium unleaded for 1.66, and...no MTBE. Guess where I'm going?

k

Sunoco Gold 94 octane all the way. I have to drive 15 miles out of my way to get it.

Close your eyes and think happy thoughts while you fill up. It lessens the pain.
