Tonneau cover question

There is a way to lock the tail gate but is there a way to lock the stock tonneau cover on so people cant just pry it up and steal my stuff? I could be using it wrong maybe but it seems pointless because i can lock the tail gate and just pull the cover up. Does anyone know the answer or a solutiuon to this or is the only way i can lock it is to get a hard cover. I like the soft cover and i was wonderin whether is it suppose to seal my stuff in or just pull off? Thanks

Ive got the stock cover, and it is un-lockable. After having A-hole's mess with my stuff, and stuff being put back there, a hard cover is next on my list...

This is just my opinion...
If you have a soft tonneau cover I wouldn't bother trying to lock it or the tailgate. If someone wants to know what's behind door #1 they will just cut the tonneau cover. It's just on there for looks and to keep the bed dry in my opinion. Even if you did lock the cover and the tailgate. That's just going to keep honest people honest. The rest of the thieves who want your stuff are just going to trash you soft tonneau cover.

What's worse... loosing a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff or loosing a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff and a couple hundred dollar tonneau cover.

Thats exaclty why when I have 900$, im gonna be gettin a nice Innovations Pro-Sport hard cover... =]... I posted a couple days ago about some jerk throwin a gallon of milk in the bed of my truck and it rotting... and getting all over a couple things I had in there. The hard cover w/ lock will solve this whole problem!

Vin,
When you shut your tailgate make sure the two tabs are inbetween the tailgate and cover. That will lock it in.
Of course a 30 cent razor blade could open it.
One of the reasons I got the hard cover.

Ya Like Vin Said,
MAKE SURE THE TWO CLOTH STRAPS ARE UNDER THE GATE BEFORE SHUTTING.

It's like a Convertible, you never lock it or your asking for trouble.
My tail gate has been unlocked since the day I bought it. Like Vin said again, if you want to keep it, get a hard cover or leave it empty like I do and unlocked

how much is the hard tonneau cover? Also, how much did you spend to paint it? I'm guessing painting would cost at least $500 and prob. the same for the cover. Also, which cover is the best and why?

Take some thin rope, tie one end to the strap on the toneau, and the other end to the tiedown in the bed.

Don, that is a very good idea. I tried just closing the straps in and i can still open it. I think your idea will work. I live in a pretty good area and there isnt many thieves. I hunt and want to keep my hunting stuff in there while i am in the woods. People would look in there if they could open it but i dont anyone around here would cut it. Lets all hope i am right. Thanks all for the suggestions. I think when i get some money...... i mean if i ever get any money:o i will get a hard cover. But for now the soft cover is gonna have to do.

When you mean hunting gear I hope you mean boots and such. I wouldn't be keeping any firearms in the back of a truck. Hell if I'm not carrying then mine are always in a fire safe. hehe

locking the tailgate is the only way to keep people from stealing the taillights.. that in itself is a good reason for owners of 01 style tails to lock the tailgate.

It also keeps them from stealing the tailgate itself...

When i said hunting stuff, i bow hunt and when i go in the woods with my hunting stuff i leave my bow case, an extra tree stand, adn other small hunting accessories in my truck. No... not guns
Just expensive stuff i dont want to turn up missing.
