coil spring r&r question

Does the lower control arm ball joint need to be separated for front spring removal?

Nope

using a floor jack with the spring slightly compressed and the shock removed, remove the bolts on the upper A arm.

SLOWLY lower the floor jack. spring will fall out.

best to use a safety chain in between the coils and the frame also.

Sir Speedin is correct, especially about the safety chain. Its smart to use one if you have never done this before

Or you can do the ball joint. Better to do the upper bolts because you need to replace them with cam bolts anyway.
