I dunno though, I'd rather get a filter on the PCV or the breather...anything saying "put less oil in the engine" frightens me.

Hey Jay, was that you that posted those excellent pictures of the air/oil seperator installation? If so could you please include a link to the thread, I tried the search but it is not working for me...

Thanks!

I disassembled the engine at 15K miles and no oil. Again at 21K miles and lots of oil. There were a lot of differences including the addition of a oil breather and 6lb lower instead of a 3lb and no breather cap...

So did you get more oil with or without the breather?

Am I saying the breather cap was the culprit? No. I am saying that something changed which caused the oil. Do I know what changed? Yes, I added several items to make the truck perform better. Do I know exactly which aftermarket part caused the oil in the intake? No.

It seems to me that adding a breather to the cam covers allows the engine to pull more air (unmeterd air at that) through the cam covers. This air of course is full of oil vapor which can/will accumulate in the intake system. Without the addition of a breather, the PCV system maintains a vaccum in the crankcase with the only airflow being the amount that bypasses the piston rings, which means much lower airflow and much less oil accumulation.

Does this sound correct? I am simply trying to make sense of all this.

01Lightning, I'll try to post a link to my gallery. The pictures are in there.

Has anyone determined of this oil is detrimental to the functioning of the intercooler?
