Question Whats the best tire? F1/Toyo Proxes S/T or Nitto 404

As far as tire wear, traction, performance, and cost, how do these add up?

Eagle F1's
Toyo Proxes S/T
Nitto 404's

I'm thiking the Nitto 555 are too soft for a daily driver. I'm not too worried about traction as much as tread wear / tire life, as I use ET streets at the track.

Anyone have alot of miles on their Toyo's yet? How are they holding up?

Thanks

I paid a wonderful 1100$ for installed toyo proxes. SO far they sounds very good on the road and seem to make a different pitched squeel when burning rubber I was told they're suppose to last longer the the F1's

yes,, actually is a different pitch squeal then the f1's. Great tire so far, traction is about the same though,, but its not a fair comparison as the toyo's I've got with 20's, and the f1's were with stock rims.

I've had Toyo's for about 10k and they are IMO as good as the F1's in every way except their wear rate is MUCH better. I think I'll get an easy 25k out of these. If you were to take your L to a serious road course you may be a few 1/10th's faster w/F1's. But for everyday use.........hands down the Toyo's win. IMO

I only got 24,000 miles out of my F1's and they were slick. The Toyo's have been on since then. I have 58,000 on the truck now, so at 34,000 miles they are about gone. I WILL buy another set.

FWIW, I just went through the same decision. F1's cost me $0.028 per mile. If I went with Toyo's and got 34k out of them, the cost would be about $0.029 per mile. I don't think the 404's are available in 295-45-18's. The Mustang owners I talked to weren't thrilled with the Toyo so I stuck with the F1.

Anyone know anything about the BFGoodrich's Mark is talking about? Something new?

And people that switch to Toyo's - did it affect ride quality at all, being a harder compound?

Thanks

Personally I like the BFGs. The Comp/TA 295/45/ZR18s aren't new though. They're probably just out of stock. They cost about 60 bucks more per than the F1s or Nitto 555s; so, I went 555s. I haven't had them on long enough to compare tread life. They do have better traction though. They protect the rim a little better, too.

I just replaced BF Goodrich Comp T/A ZR's with Nitto 555's also. I liked the BFG's, got almost 20k miles, but the last several thousand miles they were very slippery, especially in the rain. The rubber got pretty hard, so in the rain they were a little scary. However, if they weren't $60 more per tire, I would have bought them again.

Same here, I've got 11k on mine and like them better than the F1's. Every bit as good wet and dry traction, PLUS they last way longer just rotate them regularly.

Almost 20,000 on my 295 45/18 Toyos, and they're still nice and meaty. Amazing tires.

I like the F1's. Great wet traction...and I'm at 26,000 miles and still going.
