thank you guys for your support on my response...

I have built custom computer cases before... LEXAN is more scratch resistant than plexi.

I have used both in custom made windows on cases and between lan parties and luggin them up stairs, toting them all over... the lexan holds up much better.

as for price... lexan is about 50% higher

You just admitted you go to LAN parties in public... not that I would know what a LAN party is or anything. *cough cough* *hides*

:P

You could always check out McMaster-Carr. Prices are high but selection is good.

Plexiglass is harder than Lexan (polycarbonate)? I don't think so. They make football helmets from Polycarbonate; sure wouldn't want to butt heads wearing one of plexiglass. They also make subwoofer enclosures out of Lexan as it flexes much less.

Your city should have a plastics supply house listed in the yellow pages. You can buy it in 4' X 8' sheets or cut to size.

unless you specify LEXAN MR10 it is not scratch or mar resistant. for most applications acrylic or plex such as LUCITE will work fine.
from my own experience (18 years) i would much rather have plex for a box, lexan for a winshield or were it might have high impact loads, but most lexan scratches easier, you dont get the mr10 unless you ask for it or you get lucky and get a drop piece.
i am not a stero guy but do you want a material that flexes?

so you are saying it is harder and flexs more?

no i would not want a plexiglass helment either because it is more rigid, hard whatever, and would transfer the impact to your head and then probably crack. whats harder glass or steel, would you drive over a bridge made from glass?

dont confuse durability with hardness. usually the harder something is the less it flexs.

GE has bought most of the local plastic distibutor here so if you want lexan call ge and the orders are filled locally.

Actually we do use plexiglass for our completely clear subwoofer enclosures. After all things considered (strength, price, scratch resistance, anti-yellowing, weight, ease to work with) it was definitly better than lexan.

This is for a stereo box, but its only going to be a window.

I have an audiobahn 10 inch woofer thats chome and I figured it would be sweet to look in and see it with a blue neon. I'm going to see what I need, but a 2 foot by 1 foot piece is all that I was thinking about getting for it. Not the whole box cause your not going to see that anyway.

I'm going to make covers to go over all of it so he can put chit back there and not worry about scratching it up and take them off for shows.

I also got a audibahn chrome digital amp with LED screen that I want shown off too.

Don't worry there's going to be ton's of picture of my project 65 mustang gt350 by the time I'm done.

Right now I got the inside completely gutted and I'm painting the dash and doors and other stuff, then I'll slowly rebuild it all and make it look like brand new.

I plan on pulling the 351W and installing a 302 motor with a 347 stroker klit with a Holley street avenger carb (polsihed of course) with new heads ported and the peroformer intake he has on there now.

Anything I can polish and powder coat is going to be done so this should be sweet when I'm done.
