2001 for 26k? Great deal or normal?
So I've been keeping my eye open for a good deal on a lightning. A new one is just too much for me, especially around here (32k plus a 5k dealer markup).
Anyhow, today I happened accross a 2001 lightning at a Lincoln Mercury dealership. Looks to be in perfect shape (except for 3inch long gash in the bumper). 15,500 miles. I'm pretty sure I can take it home for about 26k.
So question is, I'm not in a big hurry to get a lightning but I'd do it if it was a really, really good price. Is this a great price, or can you normally find prices like this?

I bought mine new at Fairview ford in San Bernadino just when the 01's came out. I worked in the car business an at that time I had called about 25 SVT dealers in CA and the best deal I got was $1500 below MSRP. Call all SVT dealers and ask to speak to the General Manager. Since the 02's are on their final run, start by offering $500 over invoice. You probably won't get it for that in CA but it is a starting point to negotiate. I believe if you look hard enough you can get one for about $1000 over invoice. Hope this helps.
I'd say it's a good price... You can get a 2002 for just a little more on the "X-Plan" talked about all over these boards, but I talked to every dealer in the Sacramento area, and they were very firm that they would -not- except X-plan on any SVT vehicle. It's very rare to find one in CA for under MSRP (I'm sure someone on this board has, but I was not able to).
I saw a 99 sell at a non-svt dealership for 30k.

he specializes in selling Saleens mostly, but also sells low mileage used lightnings. I know that he has a nice clean white L with only around 3K miles in stock right now for around $26K I think, maybe others.
BTW, I sold my '01 with like 9000 or 11000 miles for $26500, but that was back in March.
good luck.
