Helicoil vs 17.5#'s of boost
Helicoil vs 17.5#'s of boost
Put the new helicoil through some 1320 testing friday night and so far,it is holding up.
The truck runs pretty ruff when cold but that could be the switch from denso's to tr6's.
Even managed a slightly better et with the new helicoil..maybe i should do the other seven

Hey Jeff,
From what I have read on here, I would helicoil all my plugs when running a lot of boost.
When I do build a new engine, I'm going to Helicoil all the plugs before I put the heads back on just for extra protection against launching a plug...
I hope I don't launch some plugs in my L now. I bet it's a lillte pain in the a$$ to install the helicoil's with the engine in the truck.
Sounds like Soap doesn't want to line up against you anymore. lol

DL,i think your confusing me with lightning jeff
For the multi thousands of dollars in mods that i have over joe and steve[1BADBLK01] they were both only a couple of 10th's slower than me.
If they had 8# lowers and 1.5-2 # uppers,i beleive they would both be quicker than my truck.
Mecca, the helicoils are made of steel and there installed were the original aluminum threads were before they stripped out of the head.
This is a cheap way to avoid installing a new head when your plugs decide to make an exit on there own.
In my case 100.00 installed as opposed to a new head and a swap out of valves, springs and a little porting of the new head.
The steel helicoil is said to be stronger than the original aluminum threading.
