Price

Price of a built lower for our L's would not even begin to approach the price of modding a Viper engine. For $ 15,000 any of the 3 tuners could get us in the low 11,s maybe even 10,s. A real Viper tuner would take $ 15,000, but only as an upfront deposit with the understanding that the other $ 15,000 is due upon completion. You will end up at a red light setting next to a heavily modded SRT 10 aproximately once every 2,671,438 red lights you stop at. Statistically speaking of course.

Where'd you come up with THAT number??

Besides - this is a $50k+ truck. People aren't buying it to mod it, they're buying it because it's so great, stock. Come on, the thing pulls .94G's on the skidpad. Last time I checked, that's as good as the new Cobras, if not better. And, a 12.9 second ¼-mile isn't anything to laugh at. Granted, it's not as great as one would hope for spending that much, and you're still driving a Dodge, but it's not bad.

Can't say I know of a STOCK L that will run a 12.9....

Stock-for-stock, it's a better truck - even if you don't like the looks of it. It's faster, it handles better, it has a MUCH nicer interior, 22" rims, etc.... Everything that we spend thousands to do to our Lightnings. Granted, I'd rather have a heavily modded Lightning, especially for the amount you could spend on mods to make up the difference - But, that's not the point of a PRODUCTION truck, now is it?

Besides, Ford will come out with the 2005 Lightning, which, in rumor, by next year, will have at LEAST 8 superchargers on it, along with twin turbos, and a jet engine - All for less than $40k. Let's just hope that they REALLY pay attention to detail this time - like they did in the Harley. (could you imagine all of the dots around your windshield being little lightning bolts? )

Our trucks cant even handle 600 h.p.
I know what you are going to say, we can get new blocks and get up to 800, so on and so forth. But stock for stock or equal mods forget about it.
It's hard to admit, I know and it is fun to root for our Fords but mark my words.
You get this award.

Now, the Dodge is all hype. I would like to see a 6 Speed manual truck of that size, with that much torque, powershifting gears.. Most importantly, if the owner of SRT misses a gear, goodbye..

And like its easy to mod a Viper Motor

Heck - Even Dodge agrees, there.... "Shoot, what can we do to get more power out of this 484ci V10??? 40 valves? Nah... Bore it out. There's no substitute for displacement!"

And, in-comes 500ci.

You guys act like Dodge has already put this truck on the street, Everybody's comparing #'s from the show truck. And you're a fool if you believe the street version will equal the show version or something

I beat an SRT10 yesterday...

No WAIT, they aren't even out. Will they ever arrive? Will they have the 500 ci/ 500 hp engine? Will it have a 6 Speed trans.? Will it be under 50K? IF the SRT10 does get all the real Viper hardware I'll buy one, keep it stock & enjoy it. My 02 L will then get a reprieve from daily driver status for a while & I'll do a hi-po short block upgrade & build a 550-600 rwhp street truck. Completely stock appearing while able to get into the 11's. The $64K question is, where's the SRT?

Did that Dodge come out when I wasn't looking? Why comment til there is one on the street. No one even knows what it will be, how it will perform, or what it will cost. Until then it's vaporware, and it can't beat a Neon.

He asked a simple question.

This thread is that kind of stuff that keeps people from posting here more. In my opinion he asked a simple question. For the first reply to be "Your an idiot" was uncalled for. How are people who want to learn supposed to learn if they do not ask questions? I don't think anyone here knows for sure how long a stock engine would last at the 600HP mark. Has anyone ever done it and tested the engine? It's not the boost that is going to kill the engine it will be any detonation that happens at a higher boost level. Running more boost makes the safety margin smaller for the engine surviving. There a lot of factors that go into destroying engine parts not just high boost. I could write a long post about this but I feel it would fall on deaf ears. If what you are looking for is a reliable 600 rear wheel HP then the 5.4L is not a good basis to start with. With the money you would have to sink into this engine you could start over with a much better base line. I still like the guy in Florida who swapped a 514 crate engine into his truck. In my opinion he made a better plan for having reliable high HP numbers. It's all in what you want to do with your truck. I will leave you with one peice of advise though. If you want to try something like this please speak with a local performance shop that you can work with face to face. One that has an in-house dyno is even better. Going to your local drag strip and talking with the mustang racers will usually lead you to someone who specializes in fords.

John..

I wouldn't be calling people idiots for any reason....especially if I didn't know the correct useage of YOUR vs. YOU'RE.

Sorry Soap but I couldn't resist. A question about 600 HP on a stock block is pretty funny.

I think they should wait till ford bolts an f-150 on the new GT-40 frame ,and then run the viper with a truck body and we will see who wins. I wonder how fast a lightning would go with 8.3L under the hood too?? anybody can do it with cubic inches.and for handling I dont see how that tank with what looks like smaller tires and more weight can out handle us?? I dont see it.I'm with joe, can't wait to see one on the light, and who will shi- more. no one can out manual shift that line modded, chipped autotranny.I'll have my right hand out the slider waving bye bye
