how much psi to get 600hp on motor with a kenny bell?
Your best bet is to talk to your Lightning tuner, and take out a second mortage. With that level of horsepower on a stock block, the rods won't last long. You will need a systematic upgrade to your entire airpath, and a chip to keep things under control. The air/fuel ratio and ignition timing are VERY critical in keeping a stock block together at anything over 12psi boost. You will need to run approx 21psi boost -- after bolting on a huge filter, TB, and ported/polished heads. The heads will probably drop your manifold pressure by a lb or two at that pressure level, but will increase the overall airflow.
If you can trust the KB test published in MM&FF and Trucking magazines, they are already close to 600hp at the crank. Adding some good heads should put you over the 600hp mark (on 100 octane gas). Remember, that test was done by KB, and I'm sure all efforts were made to optimize the results. I think I would focus more on the results that JL is achieving with this blower, and take his advise to heart. I don't think he will advise you to try this on a stock block.

I would call Tim at R.E.M
Tell him you want his STRONGEST shortblock.. Cost ya about $4K with Billet oil gear. Take your heads and port the hell out of them OR call up works and get an adapter for 32V Navy heads. Again, port the hell out of the Navy heads, call crower cams and order their special 4.6 Cobra Billet cams. Add 72 Lb injectors, new billet fuel rails, -6 fuel line, aeromotive inline pump, upgrade dual pumps to (2) 255LPR. After your done with that, add the KB Blozilla and you will be ABOVE 600hp with a motor that can EASILY do 850. Of course, mileage MAY very depening on tune.
Now, dump $5K into the driveline to be able to drive the beast.
Oh yeah, say hello to about $17K

why is that there are tons of 87-93 mustang owners out there with 75k on their stock short blocks with 500hp at the wheels, and everyone is saying the lightning shortblock can't take it? c'mon, what am i missing? these blocks/internals have to be stonger than the little thinwalled 302's. im just thinking its in the tune, and the people who are breaking motors with 2 or 4lb extra boost just have bad tunes? but im not an expert so maybe someone can explain to me?
Our rods.
Since the 5.4 is basically a stroker, and since Ford is a cheap ***** our rods are junk.
Since you have to replace the rods, you might as well replace everything around them.
Coldie
PS: If I'm wrong, someone please correct me

Or you could.....
You could start adding stickers to the side of your truck but to get to 600hp they need to placed just so. Next time you see one of those little rice thingy's running around with the 900hp in stickers just ask for some direction.....
Sorry I couldn't resist....

Don't get me wrong, I love my L but if you think the Dodge with a 500 hp. viper motor cant be modded to get wy over 600 h.p. and kick but on a modded L you better think again.
Our trucks cant even handle 600 h.p.
I know what you are going to say, we can get new blocks and get up to 800, so on and so forth. But stock for stock or equal mods forget about it.
It's hard to admit, I know and it is fun to root for our Fords but mark my words.

Besides they would prolly miss a gear with that bulky a$$ long throw shifter.
