This sub added some nice bass to a stock system. For 50 bucks a 8"x80 watt powered.....took up a small amount of space behind the center section.

Just last night I realized I like having the new Clarion sub box in there for the sound and the storage. Before the sub box mod the only place to put stuff was in the arm rest or in the cup holders. Every time I set something on the middle seat under the arm rest it always slides behind the seats. On my '95 F150 with 40/20/40 seats, the middle seat is curved up at the back so stuff doesn't fall behind it.

Now I can put some things on top of the box!

I know this might seem pointless to you guys but the cubby hole on top was a selling point for me as well the the BASS!

I've still got to mess with the gain some though. When I listen to classic rock there appears to not be much bass. Then you pop in rap or dance and the sub is really cranking out at the same volume setting.

Has any one contemplated making a remote gain for the sub?
I might look into it.

Eric

Thumbs up

Many thanks to ema100c and J.D. Blackwell for the heads up on the Clarion sub woofer and especially for the installation instructions. After some power problems with the sub harness i finally got it fired up, great sound!!
Does anyone have info on how to set up the correct gain setting, or do you just go by the bass sound??
Thanks again eme100c.---Jim

Jim,
I would adjust the gain based on the max volume you would listen to the radio at and the kind of music you normally listen to.
Adjust it so that you are not clipping the amp or distorting the sound at that max volume you listen to.
You are going to always need to play with the bass on the radio based on different types of music.

This is why I am going to look into setting up a remote gain for the Clarion sub box. You can't jack up the bass but so high on the radio before you distort the other 4 speakers. So you fine tune the bass with your gain.

...Of course this is just my opinion and I could be wrong.

Thanks again ema100c for the gain info. I usually don't use real high volume on my radio but i'll tell you with the sub woofer in there it sounds like an explosion every time the bass hits, wow that's going to take some getting used to. Great sound for the price but now i can barely hear my 12468 Magnaflow which i had no trouble hearing before.
I ran all my wires and zip ties under the black vent cover at the bottom. I used 2 cable hooks attached to the bottom of the housing and looped my ties over them and pulled tight. Will be easy to take off to reset the gain. Thanks again.---Jim

Got my tan one today. Looked a little dark when I pulled it out of the box. The box said F-150 on the side of it but the Sub said Dodge Darango on the back of it. It's on the way back to Crutchfield and I'm waiting for a replacement.

Hello Everyone,

OK.. I have read through all of the posts and haven't seen anyone put one of these into a Supercrew. I have a 2001 SCREW with captains chairs and a center console. Has anyone installed this with that configuration. I also have the "premium" system or whatever Ford wants to call it. Tape in dash and 6 disk changer in center console. Any help would be great. Thinking about ordering one this afternoon.

Will

In case anyone is interested. I finally got a hold of a decent digital camera and took some pics of the Clarion sub box in my 01 L.

Ebay my friend... Ebay

Some guy took mine out of his Excursion (I think) and sold it on Ebay. It wasn't cheap but I liked the factory look.

Did you swap out your original head unit for that MP3 unit. Where can I get one. I'm guessing I won't have a problem with the Clarion wire harness if I got one. TIA

BadBolt,
The mp3 head unit and the original cassette deck head unit are identical as far as wiring and connections. I bought that mp3 head unit off of Ebay earlier this spring. There were several for sale on there at that time. The Clarion box should work with either head unit. All I did was unplug the original head unit and plug in the mp3 one. Then later when I got the Clarion box all I had to do was plug that harness adapter inline with one of the headunit's plugs and I was off to the races!

Is your Clarion sub box wiring harness adapter not working with your factory cassette deck head unit?

Eric
