IT WORKS! The Clarion sub works in my 01 L
 

I ordered the Clarion powered sub box from Crutchfield that J.D. Blackwell mentioned in his post.

and yes... IT WORKS!

I was pretty skeptical at first but I popped in DMB Sattelite and couldn't beleive the sound! I think it is well worth the money!
And best of all, it did work with the stock 01 L radio.
Now it's not gonna cure you if you like the sound of two 12" solo barics playing in your civic hatchback... but it is a definite improvement to the stock system. The color is pretty close too. I haven't see it in good light yet. All I have tonight is my flourescent lights in my garage and a 60watt drop light.
I haven't touched the gain yet. It seemed to be doing okay in its default position.

I think you guys will be pleased with it considering the 150 bucks you paid for it.
I'm liking even better since I had a credit with Crutchfield:D

I don't own a digital camera but after dinner I'll ride over to my office and borrow my work camera. I only live 1 mile from work so I can be there and back in 10 minutes. The camera is an older Sony Mavica but I think it work work good enough for you to get the idea.
And now its Spaghetti time!:p

Mine should be in Tomorrow or Wednesday, also ordered some speakers to replace the door speakers :D

So was it just plug and play or did you have to do some wiring?
Also did you have to run its own power or just rus off the radio
Last do you think it will work on a 2002 should be the same right?

Keep in mind I haven't permanently mounted the box yet. For that matter, I haven't even put the radio surround plate back on or run the wires out of site.

Yes, It has a built in amp. Everything was plug and play. There is one extra ground wire for the amp but it is not required for it to run. I think it's more for safety. I don't think it is a gound idea for amps to have mutiple grounds so it must be a chassis ground.
Actually when I cranked it I could see the clock on the radio dim a little bit with the bass hits, so the amp must be pulling some current.

I would imagine that it would work in any Gen II L.

Now I'll try to find time to properly install the box...

Couple questions, though:
-How much does it weigh, approximately?
-Do you think you can flush mount a 6"DVD screen on the top, with some custom brackets/platform?
-Do you have any dash vibration when the bass hits?
-Do you need to run any power cables thru the firewall to the battery?
-Are all instructions provided with the item and additional connectors?

Sorry for all the dumb questions, but I wanna make sure.

I just measured it and it weighs 12 lbs.
The pocket on the top is a trapazoid shape. The top of the box slopes up to the dash. The bottom of the pocket is level so it recesses further into the back of the box closest to the dash.
The dimensions of the pocket are 9" long on the wide part of the trapezoid. 7" wide on the other side, and 4.5" from front to back. The pocket is 3/4" deep on the front and 2.5" deep on the back. The outer measurement of the pocket trim is 6" from front to back. This should be enough to mount a 6" screen on the top if you remove the pocket and fabricate your own brackets and trim.
I guess it just depends how far down you want to look at the screen. The front of the box is only 9" tall above the tranny hump.
Look at the pictures and hopefully these dimensions will make sense to you.
I haven't heard any vibrations when the bass hits. It isn't that big of a sub! The only thing that vibrated was my stereo removal keys when I left them in the pocket on top of the box. The sub sounds good but its not going to rattle the teeth out of your head.
There are no cables going through the firewall. All you have to do is plug the supplied adapter inline with one of the cables that plugs into your radio.
The instructions are supplied. Make sure crutchfield gives you that Ford adapter harness. The provided mounting hardware are some sheetmetal screws. No way I'm drilling any holes in my floor or dash. I planning on velcroing to the dash.

As for your other question. There is approx 5.5" to 6" of space between the front of the middle seat and the front of the box. I guess I child could fit their feet in there. Maybe a person could stradle it and hold their feet back on either side... I don't use the middle seat so this just gives me an extra reason to keep it down to one passenger!

I do have a ? where can I get the puller for the stock radio or can I modify a clothes hanger or just buy the tool somewhere or can I remove the chasis with thradio in it somehow EMA100C what did you use ? I was looking at your pics how are you even supposed to put the hold down screws in or do those little tabs come off then pop back in some how or is there room on the bottom to use velcro all the way around just stick it to the carpet
