Thumbs up Meziere Electric water pump.

Great article in Oct's MM and FF. Looks like they got on average 9HP and 9ft-lbs of torque on a 2000 Mustang GT. Has anyone tested one on their truck to see what kind of gains they got. One thing I am interested in is durability for the daily driver.

Get the # of your local tow truck driver!
When electric pumps fail you are done.
Get a good temp. guage to monitor coolant temps
as our guage on stock L's is nothing more than an idiot light.
True, more power can be made but 450.00 can buy a safer mod.

Cool

Athens TN? I just moved up north from Vonore 2 yrs ago. Love that area and the people.

Anyway, I was the W/P design engineer for XXXX during the design & developement of these engines.

Steer clear from an electric pump on a daily driver Lightning. You don't want to go down that road. If it were a track bruiser? Sure but not on a daily.

Our temp gauge...

Is not an idiot light, it's an honest gauge. Not a very accurate one granted, but honest.

Meziere Elec. water pump.

Internet Racers Supply (www.racenet.net) has them for $314.95.
When you get to their site, hit the Ford QuickList for 1996-02 Mustangs and then "Cooling" underneath that. Scroll down to pump, part# MEZ-WP-346.

Pretty good price

I think it costs a little more from JDM. At least at WFC5 it was pricey. Close to $400 then i think. Probably has come down in price.

Cool

You guys DON'T want an Electric Water PUmp on your daily drivers or even your somewhat Street Driven trucks...These Pumps are STRICTLY for racing and going down the 1/4 and thats it...Electric water pumps are made for racing to free up some HP from the parasitic loss of a belt driven mechanical water pump...Thats why you will see most race cars with electric water pumps...You will want the reliability and cooling capacity of the stock mechanical water pump for your street Lightnings....

I disagree

The electric pump flows more than the stock pump.

Reliability. I agree it is an issue and a risk. But so is the electric fan. Try running your truck without a fan for even 5 minutes...

We sell the Mezeire mod motor pumps and I've sold about 10 of them so far just within the past few weeks, and everyone loves them. I do get asked about constant street use alot, so I just called Meziere to get their answer to using these pumps on the street. Their reply was that the pumps are rated for 2500-4000 hours use, and at an average 3 hours driving a day, that's 3 years of use at the LEAST. They also said that the pumps will last longer when used every day, as opposed to being used a vehicle that gets used one a month or so. The pumps flow 55 gallons per minute.

Just Installed one with Evans Coolant. It works super!! Takes forever to Warmup and I can turnoff truck and be cooled below 130 degree Coolant temp in 6 mins. I am very

Wired it through a 30 amp relay. It took longer to drain the coolant out than it did to install and wire !!

Thanks

You can drive along time with no fan. If weather conditions are good you can easily drive home. But have a failure with an electric water pump and you better pull over.

I had a 69 Mercury Cyclone with the scj drap pack 4.56 gears from the factory that threw fan belts like crazy. I would stay cool if I kept it over 120 with no fan belts. with those gears it was turnin unbealable rpm's at 120. I credited it to the factory oil cooler. maybr the heat flow of the water kept it cool, top tank. it was factory gears only 50 built.
I had seen 8500 rpm's on the tach in missed shifts till I got a hurst unit put on.wheter the tach was off or not i'm not sure but it wasn't an ordinary cj428 for sure.

Until the trust factory is 100%. I am carrying the Cobra R pump and pulley with the minimum tools to replace if I got stuck somewhere. But with a electric Intercooler pumps, electric fuel pumps, electric fans, and hey I fly helicopters for a living...

Havn't had a failure yet !! Well, maybe one engine failure...

Cool

Look on a daily driver there is much more to it than seeing/measuring the coolant temp (at one point in the entire system) "IF" your interested in longevity OF THE ENTIRE MOTOR. It would be very short sided to look at the life of just the new pump. Who cares? It's easily replaced.

If you not interested in longevity? Then fine run it and free up a little hp. Maybe the short life span will give ya an excuse to buy something better?

To you daily drivers like me, I don't have the time to educate you guys/gals about automotive cooling 101. So...you can either listen me (the design engineer of these 5.4l pumps) or not.

Later, WOT
