Ported and polished heads........
Are they out there? Does anyone know of a place to buy custom worked heads for the Lightning? I was looking at the the modifications list for the "One Lap of America" truck; and, custom heads were listed. I have been considering headers for some time; but, don't see the point without swapping the heads at the same time. There doesn't seem to be that large of a gain for the price of the headers alone.
Here's a link to the mod list......

We sell the Mod Max CNC Ported heads, same ones we use on our 01. I've sold over a dozen sets so far. They use oversize one piece stainless ModMax valves, ModMax springs (new design) and ModMax titanium retainers and keepers.
Basically, they kick butt
If you have specific questions, please ask.

What kind of gains can the average L, with let's say 4 to 5 lbs. of extra boost, expect to see with these heads and the long tubes you sell?
Is a bottom end rebuild required for a daily driver with a low abuse factor?
And finally, of course, how much?
Any extra info you feel should be imparted, would be more than welcome, also.
Thanks for the reply!

We have not dynoed these heads on a Lightning, in a fair comparaison, i.e. dyno, put new heads on, dyno again. However on the 4.6 GTs, people are seeing about 40hp increase, and that's on a N/A 4.6! I'd estimate 50-60hp on a Lightning with most of the bolt on goodies and about 14 psi or so.
These are the same heads we run on our 10 second 01. I don't have something different than I'm selling. I installed the ModMax heads, and the Works 112 at the same time, and with nothing else changed, we picked up 9 mph.
The heads are currently $2295 per pair, and are BRAND NEW Ford castings, that have been CNC ported, machined, and assembled. However, very soon they may be offered cheaper on an exchange basis, as from talking with ModMax, we found that Ford jacked the price of the new head castings up.
Here's a picture of the heads, for those who want to see:

I'm sure some would like to know the flow numbers, also. I don't have the knowlege to understand the significance of any differences myself; but........
Is there any modification to the intake manifold required for the custom heads? Can the ported intakes be had on an exchange basis if they are a requirement?
Thanks again. Sorry if my questions are amateurish. I'm still learning.

I called once on the heads because its on my next mod list. But correct me if I'm wrong but, I was told thay were Fox Lake Heads. Are thay differant now? I was also told about having the plenum ported to match those heads. A question on that subject ; if the plenum is sent to be ported how does the shop you send it to know how much to port them? Do thay have to have the heads to match them to? Silly questions but , I don't want my truck tore up all over someones shop for a week. Thanks

Yes, Fox Lake was hired by ModMax to port and build the heads. I had been calling them Fox Lake heads, but they are really supposed to be marketed as a ModMax product.
There is no intake porting needed. The intake ports have been opended up to perfectly match the gasket shape, which matches the intake ports. You can have your lower intake ported if you want, but I seriously doubt you'll see any gain from that.
As for flow numbers, well, I'm not a big fan of giving those out. There is a lot more to flow numbers than meets the eye. Let me explain why...
First of all, not all flowbenches are calibrated the same. So you can have a set of heads that outflows a second set, and that second set can show higher numbers on a different bench.
Second, when you flow heads, they are done at a specific setting for inches of vaccum. Some flow testers use 28", some 30" and some 32". Different settings result in different flow rates.
Third, big flow numbers don't always mean more power. You can port the crap out of a head, and it'll flow huge amounts of air, but on a vehicle, it will run like dog doo because you lose intake velocity. The numbers look impressive, but the head works like crap.
Forth, big flow numbers at a certain lift don't mean squat if the head doesn't flow well in other areas of lift. It's sort of like chips. You can have a brand X chip that produces great peak hp, but only at high rpms. Then you can have a brand Y chip that doesn't produce as high of a peak hp, but it makes more hp than chip X everywhere else. The vehicle will run faster on the brand Y chip. ?Same thing with the heads. You can have a head that flows great numbers at .600 lift, but everywhere else it's dead.
I do have all the flow data on the ModMax heads. But until there is data on other heads that is done with equal testing measures, the numbers themselves don't mean anything.
What I CAN provide, is the improvement over a stock casting. A stock head flows 155 at .450 lift, 163 at .550 lift, and 171 at .600 lift on the intake side. On the exhaust side, a stock head flows 151 at .450 lift, and 153 at .500 lift and up.
The ModMax heads flow 196 at .450, 213 at .550, and 217 at .600 on the intake side. On the exhaust side, they flow 187 at .450, 193 at .550, and 195 at .600.
These numbers can be legitimately compared as both the stock and ModMax heads were flowed on the same bench. But remember, the flow is not the only important thing, the shape of the ports is very important as well.

I just got the new heads put on my truck w/ the pistons .20 and new throttle body and other goodies... I should have my truck back in the next week or so, whenever I get my chip and oil pump, so i'll post and tell how the truck is running when I get it back.

You want the heads no Boyd Coddington Smoothie 2's
. If you thought black was hard to clean you dont want polished wheels
. I think a nice set of chrome would look good just as long as they arent the Smoothie 2's heh.
You can relax Vin, until I take the curb off my driveway, no new wheels for me I have already f^*%ked up my factory wheels
Iam leaning towards a new bottom, heads and maybe, just maybe a big O blower instead
