VERY interesting. W/ my Diablo Hellion OBD-2 ScanTool I'm recording just 2 to 10 degrees over ambient in the same temps w/ the stock airbox. I'm going by the digital truck temp reading. Of course I'm in L.A. (Lower Alabama) so our humidity sux here, so maybe it has to do w/ the extra moisture in the air?

Anyhoo, w/ the modified stock airbox (Ivan Lightning style lol) I'm seeing anywhere up to 50 over ambient in traffic and low speed cruising. When on the highway or interstate I'm getting +20 over around 55 to 60 and about +10 over at 80.

Mine Didnt used to be that far off ambient either... I wonder if it is the Long tube headers heating up the engine bay or if the sensor is bad... I wonder how much the sensor is.....

Mike You need to get a web page up with a list of all your products

Here is scan from today.. The ambient was 10 degrees hotter. Both the Mass air voltage went up 2 tenths. Intake temp is a little hotter, but considering the open filter and 10 degrees hotter ambient AND this screen shot is in 2nd gear compared to the 4rd gear screen shot so the airflow trough the engine bay is lower...

Based on this the open filter CLEARLY flows a LOT more air at even low 2nd gear speeds.

I was just looking at the info on the AutoTap site, and wanted to find out which one you were using? Was it the base model for the Fords or the enhanced Ford model?

I am not here to start a war, I am not here to get banned. I am not here to bash. Sal is great to the people on this board and is valuable to the L community. I am sporting 1 part from JDM, 0 from Sal, 0 from JL, 2 from LFP, and several from REM. I am not a JDM goon. I just thought a little perspective might be in order here since I am tired of all the nasty posts on this board. Please do not turn this one into a war. It is meant to illustrate "how it can look" from the other side...

I watched a thread where JDM posted out a Bling Diff Cover that I thought looked cool. It mentioned some kind of performance benefit which to me read "blah blah blah" since I am not aware that people are blowing diffs and didnt' really care. To me, it just looks cool. However, that is not the point. The point is he made a post and Sal jump in and called the performance claim a "stretch". Several jumped in and made calls to demonstrate emprical evidence to back up the statement and then the whole thread went to chit.

Imagine if I were a tuner (and a well respected one at that --I'm neither) and I stepped in and said that "I designed the FASTair to be the best Lightning induction system money can buy" is a bit of a stretch and asked you to provide data that backs up the claim to be the best money can buy. It is called marketing. The legal term is called PUFFERY -- look it up. Puffery is a DEFENSE in a court of law which is why so many companies make claims such as this one and the one JDM. Sal made another cheap shot in a post about trouble with a JL intake install by Tim Skelton. Sal was very forthcoming in apologizing and we all make mistakes. Can you IMAGINE the anger from this board if I as the imaginary aforementioned tuner made a post questioning Sal's performance claims? Hell hath no fury like a prized tuner scorned...

From the cambridge international dictionary of english:

puffery
noun [U]
Puffery is praise which is too forcefully expressed and is intended to make people buy something.

Seriously, this is not an attack on Sal, but you guys -- all vendors, need to stay out of each other's posts and not drag down the group. I am all for arguing the technical merits of a particular design, but when it comes to the tuners posting on this forum, have something nice to say or don't say anything at all. If you, the tuners, operate in a professional manner always, hopefully the users will follow....

Please, Sal, don't take this the wrong way. It is not a personal attack -- seriously. I wanted to buy an autologic from you and have called numerous times (always got your assistant) but I finally gave up on Autologic getting the software together... However, after the "stretch" comment and having previously read this thread, the issue was gnawing at me so I just had to come here.

It's a bit different though...

Sal isn't claiming ANY benefits from using "the best induction system" except the implied belief that more air is good and more colder air is even better.

I think if JDM would have said "the best rear diff cover for the Lightning" there wouldn't have been anywhere near as much debate... (and I use the term debate loosely )

Also: Sal's comment was in reply to a compliment and JDM's was strictly an advertising post.

Either way, I've got parts from both, just wanted to point out, it's not exactly the same thing.

I have to respectfully disagree, Coldie...

I designed it to be the best... That implies that it is better than everything else out there which, IMHO is "a bit of a stretch"...

I think it is exactly the opposite. If JDM had said his was the best diff cover money could by, the flame war would have been even worse.

Best is final... there is no room for interpretation.

Drastically improved is a subjective measure and can be interpreted any way. This is a form of puffery.

Best is a declaration...

Could someone please tell me how this thread went from explaining the information the autotap/dialbo readers pull about our trucks to this chit?

I have the fresh air system on my truck too. I have to agree it really helps keeping the intake temps down once you get moving.

Thumbs up Sal
