slower on slicks ?

I drag race my lightning professionally, over here in the uk and found road tires not giving enough traction.so after meny a phone call to the usa i now own a set off hoosier 28/14/16 tires and 16" rims. I was so looking forward to some lower times but found i went slower? so disapointed went back to road tires!
have you lot got any idears why this is happening i would love to know thanks lads
ps i am the only guy raceing a lightning in the uk and won summer nats at santa pod a month ago

Do you mean slower E.T. or slower MPH?

how tall are you road tires? the gearing could have an effect on it big time.

I to have the Quicktime pro's you have, I haven't been to happy with them so I just got a set of the 28x10-16 true slicks. I have barrowed a set in the past and they hook much better.

I have a few questions

How wide are the rims? the widest I could find was 10 inches and to me those are still to narrow. I think they will work better with a 12 inch rim.

What psi are you running them at ? I found 17 psi worked the best.

Also they seem to hook up a little better after you make a few runs on them.

I hope that helps you a little.

Well My idea on this is unless you are running a modified 12.-13.5 Lightning you probally are not making enough power to gain from the slicks which are gonna give you lower MPH regardless mods or not

A stock L and slicks dont match

Just my nickel

It takes some power to run those 14" wide tires, also a bias ply will have more drag than a radial.

What Don said is the way to go. 28x10x16 true slicks

I would say you probably have lost a LOT of torque with removing the cats and all...

If you do a search for cats on here you will find out that most who removed them reinstalled them due to the loss in back pressure which will cause you to lose torque. Even these tuners who are making huge #'s keep the cats and mufflers.
Loss of torque, big slicks and 3.73 gears is probably not good for times.

edit: Heck, I don't know. I just was reading a post where people were praising the no cat route...????? Call whoever you get your chip from and ask.
