Question Wheel Locks

Hey everyone,

I recently purchased a 2001 SVT Lightning and I'm concerned about someone stealing those beautiful rims. What kinds of wheel locks does everyone use? Should I go back to Ford or can anyone recommend something better? I'm not having any luck with the McGard web site and Discount Tire told me I have to go back to the dealer.

Thanks in advance for your help!

you might try searching- this issue has been covered throughly

I use Ford Locks. Not aware of any aftermarket companies that have locks that fit

My 2002 came with wheel locks, std. I'm sure if you went back to your dealer they could help you out and order the same things...at an inflated prince, of course.

Thanks guys, I will pick some up at Ford. The search hasn't been very helpful because people mentions "wheels" and "locks", but not the type that they have. The dealer cost is sixty bucks! I wish Gorilla had some that would fit.

Actually...

the ones that came with my 2002 are a nationally known brand that I have seen in auto-parts stores, but I can't recall the name and don't have the L with me today. Be patient and someone will reply with the brand or I can check when I get home.

$60!!!!!!!!! All they are is some chrome lug nuts with a funky pattern cut in the top of the bolt head, with a matching "key" that fits in the pattern.

Thanks SVT4RD, but I'm more concerned with the quality of the locks. I traded in my 98 Mustang GT to get the Lightning and my previous experience with the Stang locks was that they pretty much suck. I'll be patient and see if anyone else posts a better brand, but I don't want to leave those locks off for too long!

May have changed since 2001 but up till then FORD was the ONLY source for locks that were right pitch, length and had the washer. $60 is real high though... Clearly Ford doesnt make them HOWEVER they had an exclusive deal that they were the only source for a long time.

TXSVT check out the TALON link in my Sig ( above ) - THe local guys in Dallas may be able to point you in he right direction...

If memory serves me correctly, the locks that Ford sells are McGard. McGard makes them but will not sell them to individuals, you have to go thru the dealer. Anyway, have had mine on for over 1 year, not even the slightest discoloration or sign of rust.

I just got back from the dealer and they said I just missed a set they had in inventory. They were nice enough to print a list of other dealers in the area that have them in stock, so that I don't have to wait 5-7 days for them to be delivered. I'll have to drive across town to get them, though. Fine by me... more drive time!

That makes sense that they are McGard. That's who Discount Tire told me to check with in the first place. The Lightning is not an option on their web site though, because they want you to go through the dealer to get them.
