Question I'm new at this need help. Drag radial or slicks?

I'm a new kid on the block. I have been out of racing for the past couple of years. I had a RED that would run in the mid 4s in a 1/8 but I could run a big tire on it.
I just purchased a 01 Lightning and put on my mods from JLP and can not get down the track. I do not know what kind of tire to put on the truck.
I need to know what is a good tire for the track and a occasional street put up or shut up. I can not get down the track on my F1s at all. I can roll it out about 20 to 30 feet and it will still spin the tires. The truck had a 2.31 60ft. time and I need help. I have noticed that a lot of you are runing traction bars and Nt-555 drag radials. Will that help me get down the track or do I need to go with a diffrent tire or maybe a slick.

Tire sizes?
Tire brand?
Traction bars?

keep it out of them guard rails now william! hahahaha i been trying to get in touch with you and we cant seem to get our timing right. anyway i been out of town since thursday morn but now im back. for a street strip setup i like my nittos 305/45/18s i pulled a 1.78 on em thursday night in jackson. but if you want to make sure you knock it out first time get the hoosiers 28x10x16s. JLP can give em to u and the wheels u need. when u do either of these tires u have to have trac bars. any kind will do i like the looks of the truck tracs but if u wanna see my jdm bars call me and tell me be4 you come by and i will show em to u. if u dont have some kinda bars u WILL break a driveshaft. if u want some like mine jlp has them too. also make sure u get a driveshaft loop!!!!!! i heard bout u running the other night i told u hinesville wont hook hahaha. on f1s i could manage fro a 2.02 - 2.12 every time even in 40 degree weather. u have to just baby it and ease it to the floor. no stomping it no matter if u r 20 feet out, u have to ease it down. sometimes it may even short shift 1st @ 4000 rpms. but on my hoosiers everytime i been down there it always hooks. so far everywhere i been with my hoosiers hooked up. i dont think my nittos would be worth but maybe a 1.90 down there. gimmie a call.

my opinion:

you should be able to run just fine on your F1s. I had no problem running repeated 1.81 60 ft times on 32psi Goodyear F1s and as you can see in the sig I went as low as 1.78 with my '01.

maybe you are just at a trac with bad prep or a bad launch pad?

but back to your question, if you are going to invest in wheels and tires for maximum hook, you need to get some 15" wheels and slicks, but then again, that doesn't help you on the street. but as far as i'm concerned, neither will the nittos.

just my two cents.

good luck.

later,
chris

Hey Rusty,

Let me know when you go to Jackson, SC. I'm usually home every weekend. I'll try to meet you there.

Shoot me an E-mail. Maybe, I'll get CornerCarver and a couple more L's to meet also.

You need to go to Bowling Green for the NMRA finals in Sept????

Hey Rusty,

I've been having computer problems lately. Haven't been on line much. Give me a little heads up next time and I'll try to make it. Sat's are usually better for me with my work schedule, but I can re-arranage my schedule sometimes to make a Thursday night.

Do you race oval track close to where I live?
