All cars have problems the owners just don't like to talk about them unless it's in a board like this.

I PERSONALLY haven't had too many problems. Just one or two very very minor problems(cross fingers)I think people are selling so much to get the '03 cobra but that's just me.

I had the front suspesion "clunk" but that's the only problem that I didn't cause myself. Even the ones I did cause were minor. And yes, I would sell this for a Cobra.

I asked the exact same question when I bought mine back in March. You read the post's and see tons of L owners who blew out sparkplugs, have leaking intercoolers, bad coils, burnt plugs, clunky front ends, etc..... Being the Lightning is limited production and you read this all the time, Yes I got to say "they can" be troublesome. "BUT" Lets not forget we get to ride around in a full chassis 5,000 Lb Awesome Looking SVT that can rip a 12 sec 1/4 with minimum Mods, and easy bolt on parts. To Boot it handles better than some sports cars, and we never get stuck driving the Mother and Father in Law around. As for the ones that break, look at what some people are doing to them, and with them. You have to understand the risks that go along with owning the Fastest Truck on the planet earth. Can you afford the fastest car on the planet, I can't. So to me, this is Heaven.

Thumbs up

36,300 miles--never been to a dealer or repair shop! And she screams as she eats up the 1/4 mile

1999 Lightning that is stock with 22000 miles. Mostly daily driver and mostly highway miles. Problems to date are:

1.Changed out lower control arms to fix the famous "clunk" and occasional loud banging noise. Also had very erratic steering. Warranty.

2. Check engine light came on at about 15000 miles. Dealer reset ECM. Warranty.

3. Condensation in tail light lense, which was replaced. Warranty.

4. A couple of pulley wheels replaced. Had some mild squealing noise at start-up. I paid to get belts replaced and Dealer replaced pulley wheels on warranty.

Truck is not garaged. And it runs great. Never raced but jumped on hard occasionally.

I do have the "marbles in the tin can" noise at start-up and a dozen times at the most, blew out a serious volume of blue smoke at start-up.

That's it in exactly three years.

I think the reason people are selling their trucks, is because they bought them to be fast trucks, and just lost sight of that.
They take it to the track, and get fast times... but then they just want faster times that the lightning can't give them... so they sell and buy something faster... because the lightning isn't as exciting. Why they bought the lightning in the first place no longer matters.
I know that's not the only reason... but I've seen posts that say almost just that.

I forgot this. Had to get the driver seat padding reinforced over the outside bolster bar. Bar was pushing through the thin padding. Had passenger side done as well. Warranty work.
