Question tire wear

Just changed all 4 F1's at 25k miles. I've rotated and kept pressure at 35 psi for those miles. The front two had extreme treadwear on the inside tread, about 1 inch. One was smooth down to the wire and the other was uneven, not quite down to the wire. The alignment was checked and was right on. Anybody else notice this type of wear?

Have same problem, brought to three different places to have the alignment checked, each time was given a different answer on what might be causing the problem. Just got cam bolts and herb washers installed and watching tread wear after I had the tires rotated. My truck always seem to want to steer to the left just so slightly!

Yes there are, but a Quality Care center and 2 Ford dealers should know that.
All I ever got was it's got big tires and it's normal for them to wear like that.

tire damage?

My 01 L has 3800 miles on the original F1s. In those 3800 miles I have repaired punctures in two of the tires so far. One was a screw and one was a nail I think. I've never had to repair this many tires on any vehicle so soon. I take the L all the same places as my other cars but they don't have any problems..knock on wood.

Does anyone know if the F1s are prone to pickup objects? Is it because of the softer rubber on the F1s? Has anyone else had to repair the tires so soon?

I don't drive near any construction sites or anything I would consider to be a high probabilty location for nails and other sharp objects.

Just curious...

The alignment tech showed me his printout with the Lightning specs all in degrees: Caster=6.7, camber=-0.5, Each toe=-0.05, total toe=-0.10. Still had a few more thousand miles if it wasn't for the inside wear.

Judging by the alignment numbers (camber=-0.5, Each toe=-0.05), you should not be seeing the wear you speak of. Try cam bolts and Herb's washers. There is a good chance that your lower A-frames are moving in and out under stress due to the slotted hole in the frame. Washers and cam bolts will stop the movement.

I'm happy with the 25k but I'm not happy with the wear on the inside of both fronts when the alignment checks out perfectly. PT probably nailed it down for me, thanks.

I work at Discount Tire, and I see this often on lightnings that happen to come by at work. You are not alone.

This kind of post helps out. Thanks! From now on I'll make sure to rotate the tires often so as to get the most out of my $$$.

Thumbs down

I ran my first set at 32#'s..center wore first (OVER INFLATED)..I'm now running 30#'s and tire wear is even...
