Art Carr torque converter

Got a deal on an ART CARR torque converter with a 2400 stall. I ordered it Tuesday or Wednesday and got it this morning. I was surprised at the weight difference. Total weight is 33 lbs and the stock one is 53lbs. I hope I can get some good 60 ft. times with this one.

I have asked about convertors a million times on this site.
It seems not many owners have installed them yet. Please keep me posted on the results. How much was it?

I ordered my ArtCarr converter when I was at WFC5. They had a show special and were selling them for $511 shipped.

I ordered a 3000 stall converter, but when I installed it I found out it was more like a 3800stall!! I could brake stall the converter to 3000!! Had to pull the converter and send it back to get restalled. This restall doesn't count as my free restall.

I ran the truck with the converter that way for the hell of it to see what it would run.

--Stock converter I ran a 12.62@107(8.1 in the 1/8th) with a 1.74 60ft on 26"E.T. streets(which raise the effective gear)

--ArtCarr converter I ran a 12.62@104(7.9 in the 1/8th) with a 1.64 60ft on 28" Hoosiers. I know my 60ft times would been better on that run if I had my 26"E.T.'s on.

Even with the converter stalling WAY too high, I ran a great 60ft and a great 1/8th mile. After the 1/8th the truck was done. The converter would only let the RPM's drop to 5k after a shift, which is far out of the powerband.

I feel when I get the converter back it will more than do the job. It didn't do too bad and it wasn't even the right stall speed.

I should see the converter sometime next week and will post times.

Jason

I got mine through the GP over on the Florida Lightning site. $599 + $15 shipping.

My best stock converter was a 7.99 1/8th with a 1.73 60ft. That was last year with the 26x10.5x16 et streets. I should be almost a full second quicker this year with the nitrous, blower, and bigger tires...

Wich Art Carr built the converter. There is the old Art Carr that was bought from Art Carr and now the real Art Carr is back in business. Anyone know?

Angry Art Carr torque converter stinks!

I installed my built engine, factory tech tranny and Art Carr torque converter a couple of weeks ago. My times pretty much stink at the track. I went to bristol this last weekend and I get my truck datalogged. The truck is making awesome power but the torque converter stalls at 3800! I thought I bought a 2400 stall. Beware of Art Carr torque converters! It is not an easy thing to replace especially since I have the canton oil pan.
The torque converter was purchased from mark@lightningforceperformance.com
Not only have I wasted my money on the converter, now I have to waste my time removing it.

Art Carr converters are horrible as far as Lightning applications go. I've used 4 different Art Car converters in several of my Lightnings and every single one failed. Aside from that, they are only a single disc lock up clutch, and since the converter is physically smaller, the disc is smaller, and you loose clamping surface area. With the torque our trucks make, any aftermarket single disc lock up will burn up. That is why we sell the Precision converter, because we've used all the rest and the Precision is the only one that holds up. Plus the two year warrenty with one free stall change is nice too

It seems that Art Carr has a problem with his converters. I installed a 2400 stall Art Carr converter a couple of weeks ago and my stall is a 3800 also. WTF?
I'm taking it out ASAP and installing the stock converter.
I would recommend against anyone purchasing an Art Carr torque converter.

I should have bought a PI. I wish someone would have said something to me before I bought this POS.

Thumbs up

easterisland,

I bought a P.I. 2400 stall converter from JDM in January of 2001 with 3,000 miles on my truck. I currently have 37,000 miles on the truck. Never had a single problem with the Precision converter and as Sal said, 2 year warranty with a free stall change is something no other converter manufacturer has. I have yet to hear of anyone burning up a Precision Industries converter on our trucks and the bottom line is you get what you pay for.

I bought my P.I. From sal and I'm happy with it. I only got about 1000 miles on it but I drive like its 100 miles per 1 regular mile anyway, HEHEHEHEHEHEHE

Sorry about your luck bro.

Sorry to hear about your problems with the torque converter. I know after pulling my motor, rebuilding it and installing I was not in a rush to get back under the hood. The PI converter is being used by most and with great sucess. I purchased a Pro Torque from Level10 and have been very happy with it, it has a brake stall of 2400 (about a 2800 stall converter).
