Power Pipes and cold air

Ok, I am ready to start modding my truck and the first thing I want to start with is a cold air kit. I have seen the Anderson ford power pipe set up online and think it looks cool, but how well does it perform? Any other recomendations on a kit? The truck is a 2002 and I will be using the stock 90mm MAF.. thanks

go to the anderson web site and check out the dyno results, the jump is not that big on the trucks with the 90mm mass air. I would probably go with the airaid or just the K & N panel, thats what I used. The Airaid web site only lists an application for 99-00 so I'm not sure if they work on our trucks(01-02). I think some of the other kits out are a little pricey for the results they give on the 01-02 trucks.

If it fits a 99-00 it won't fit an 01-02.

99-00 have 80mm MAF
01-02 have 90mm MAF

I put an Anderson power pipe on my 2002. I noticed increase in throtle response and increase in the supercharger whine (which is good!). The only bad thing that I notice was the tight fit. I had to trim about an inch off of the rubber throttle body adapter. It took a while to get the proper fit. Trim test, trim test. It should have been an instant fit right out of the box, but that is not the case. Overall I like the performance and the look of the Power Pipe, I just did not like the install.

0h2red did they cornh0!e you on the shipping charges? Have you heard of any others having to modify their kits to fit properly?
I am going to call summit and see what they offer, maybe the K&N fipk or something of that nature. Do you have any pics of the install on your truck?

I did soooooooo much research before making that decision, Go with a JDM "or anybody’s", "12" Hi Flow Cool Air Induction with Secondary Fender Well Inlet. They claim as much as 20 HP Gains, (I said Claim :o) but what you'll notice the most is it can add up to 3 LB's of extra Boost, AND IT DID FOR ME. A matter of fact right now my Pulley and chip are out of my Lightning and I still bury the gauge when I stomp on it. and the boost is there believe me, at least 11 or 12 Lb's. But I also believe not all Lightnings are alike. and I happen to have a real fast one that runs exceptional. Here's some info on it. You can check my gallery; I have good pictures of it. Hope this helps....
Rob

Cool Air Induction Kit, 2002 Lightning

The XXX Engineering Cool Air Induction Kit for 2002 Lightning’s features a billet aluminum adapter and a 12" S&B Air Filter. We have found this to be the best filter because, in addition to its overall high flow characteristics, it incorporates a filter element at its peak, allowing air to flow directly through the cool air inlet of the fender well into the filter. We have also incorporated a performance-tuned air charge temperature sensor, a spring bracket and a boot for pulling air through the fender well.
A solid 20 horsepower improvement compared to a stocker!
As much as 2mph gains have been noticed in quarter mile runs!

1/4-mile improvements up to 2/10's & 2 mph!
Quicker throttle response, cut boost up time, and increase boost up to 3psi!

Svt4rd: Shipping was not too bad, couple of bucks. Have not heard from other people. No pics yet. The power pipe install did bury my factory boost gauge though. K & N does not make a fipk at this time.

thanks for the reply. I noticed its just the cone to the fender. I wonder if there would be an increase to be had going all the way to the throttlebody???

My afm powerpipe also required cutting around 1/2 inch off the rubber boot in order to fit and i bought one of the first kits.
Looks like they have yet to fix this problem.

No Cutting Required for the JDM. They give you what they call a spring bracket. (it's a 360 degree circle to support the filter) The bracket screws into two screws that will be exposed once you pull the factory box out. I decided to cut the top half of the bracket off since the weight is laying only on the bottom half.
If you look hard in my pictures you'll see the end of the bracket, on the right side closest to the nose. They also give you a short piece of like 4" foam rubber that will fit inside the factory fender inlet and butt up against the front of the filter. It was a pain in the butt lining it up, but once I did, it was good to go and has never moved a bit.

Thumbs up

If you get this kit, you will not be disappointed:

http://www.powersurgeperformance.net...pexd.asp?id=38

Read the info and test done.........it works and you don't have to cut the kit up to get it to fit. You do have to cut the wheelwell liner for one of the tubes to connect to the fender well but this is explained.
