6 Spd Lightning and Ram SRT-10

I'm curious what others think of the SRT-10. I'm assuming with Forced Induction the L has much more potential for less money than the Dodge. But who here would like a manual tranny in their L ? I'm sure some people would say they can' t handle the torque. Auto manufacturers always use that excuse, but the New Cobra can handle it, I'm sure its possible.

SRT-10

I'm sorry, I thought it was well known by now that they decided to build it. It's a Ram with the Viper engine and transmission, (all 500 Hp and 500 ft lbs, with 6 speed tranny, viper brakes, etc) Here is some info.http://www.southbankdodge.com/ram_srt_10.htm

Most people think that if the SRT-10 ever comes out, the dodge drivers are going to have to learn to handle that manual in order to turn decent track times. This shifter aint no mustang or camaro shifter. Its a long **** and a longer stick=longer shifts=slower times..

BBriBro, welcome!

Don't judge the whole site by your first couple of responses. It seems that when something is posted in the Lightning section, people tend to be a bit touchy. It's not that way in every section. I think there might be a few intimedated by the prospect of the SRT-10.

The SRT-10 sounds like it could be some serious competetion. I think thoes of us that are Ford fanatics believe that Ford will counter the SRT-10 with a extremely potant version of the Lightning (hopefully for the '04 model year). If they can keep it under 40k, I think I might just have to pick one up.

So far the automatic transmission has proved it's self. Yes, a manual will draw less HP but it would be tough to make a transmission that would perform well (say in the quarter) in a truck. The Lightning has a lot going for it. It can easily pull it's own, it's got the potential to do quite well in the quarter and it can handle better than most (all?) trucks out there today. I personally would like to see a manual transmission but I think that it would deter a lot of people from purchasing one.

I guess we will have to wait and see how well the SRT-10 actually does. The numbers sound good but I'm like many in that I will believe it when I see it!

Take a look at the rest of the site. There are a lot of good people here. I think that the Lightning people are good people too, they just seem to be a bit more touchy than the rest. I don't know!

Have fun!

I read the 1st 4 pages before I posted, but I after that humiliating 1st post, I used the search function (I'm surprised no one threw that in my face) I found out that most people are speculating about performance and which one is better, although my main intent was just to question the lack of ( or desire for ) a manual tranny in the Lightning. I also discovered there is a rule that there must be a post containing the word "SRT-10" in the top 10 at all times, LOL so albeit by total accident, here it is.

Anyone that has ever ran a manual car in the 1/4 knows how hard it is to hit each gear even with the very short throw. I think a manual in a truck would be very impractical for drag racing, unless you like to granny shift.

I never had a problem in my old car and it ran consistant 10.3's @ 130+. 4spd not a lenco or anything. It just takes practice and hand eye co-ordination.
BUT it wasn't a truck either!

Lets get past the shifter and discuss the body design. It doest look very streamline. Alot of wind resistance and look at the ride height i bet it wont handle very well.
