Water Pump pics please?
METRO!! Hey buddy how's it going?
Thanks for the close up pics. Now everybody can see what I'm talking about.
And "these f-150 guys" are correct about that being a "cobra pump". BUT!! It was on the 96-98 models only. And actually it was no different than any other elec fan 4.6L pump.
The 99+ models were to have what has become known as "the cobra pump" as of late. Me & the fellers at XXXX (mostly me though) did a lot of work on both 7 blade impellers getting them fine tuned.

sup WOT!
Nothin much
I was trying to find your email to ask you about the 5.4 Lightning water pump and if it would work on the Vic, but apparently I'm better off with the PW-386?
I apologize for the low-quality pics... I used a 1992? VHS camcorder linked to my ATI TV Wonder PCI (which took the signal recorded on the tape and converted to an MPG, which i then took snap shots of... so the quality is poor).
I told Russ about the PW-386 but his parts man couldn't find any and had to settle for a PW-400 replacement.
I remember the 96-98 Cobras having cooling problems?? Or was that the 99-up Cobra?
I have to agree with WOT on the 3 points with the PW-386:
you can't use it for low RPM stuff like idling, towing, or driving at low speeds.
However, I don't idle much, I don't tow, and I rarely cruise at low RPMs - except on the highways but at that point I have enough airflow to help me out.
I remember you saying the PW-400 cavitates at 4500 RPM or so... with the PW-386 cavitating at about 5500 RPM??? with the underdrives installed I won't be able to get to the cavitation RPM.
BTW with the underdrives installed, I need to use both hands to turn the Vic!!
I can't leave my left arm/hand out the window. lol

4500rpm (pump speed) cavatition applied to pass car blocks including the all alum stang. The truck blocks did have a bit better situation but not by much.
On a Lightning.. no make that on my lighting! I'm using the 7 blade curved vane impeller if not allready equipped? (I've still got a few prototypes laying around)

55 gpm? Now I'm really interested in the rpms!
Metro, the 7 bladed one you are showing pics of in this post is the "new" cobra impeller.
The one I sent you last year (w/o shroud) was a prototype of what's pictured in "lightningtuner" top picture. Left pump.
For your Vic, your not going to get much better than what you have now.
The electric one would free up about 4hp at max rpms but there are a lot of other issues trying to run one all the time on a street driven car.
