Go figure...one it is mount it on the kit, another kit is mount it away from the kit...WTF is with that ?

I only found this out by searching for electric fans, and saw this post the night before I did mine. Saved me from screwing the pooch..or maybe that is TBD....

One question, did you mount the VSC to the fan kit like the directions said ?

The only reason I ask is I saw another L member that had his VSC take a powder on him, and FAL said to put the new on away from the Rad / fan kit to avoid getting too much heat on it.

Just wanted to know what I was in for, I put mine on the sheetmetal behind the head light, where that member said FAL told him to put the new replacement one.
Yeah, if I get some time at lunch today, I'll search for the part number at Jeg's at post it. Pics won't do much good, 'cause you can barely see the fan.

Here is the info on the electric fan. Website:

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...14&prmenbr=361

It's part #771-19117 ($103). It happens to be the one on the left in the little insert. A little persuasion with a hammer on the brackets and it can be bolted to a stock fan shroud real easy.

They also sell a wiring kit, part #771-18905 ($50) or 18907 (60), depending on type of sensor:

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...12&prmenbr=361

Myself, I just bought a relay, some wire, and a switch and just wired it up with just on/off operation. Runs great in the 95deg weather we are having in Texas. No overheating, or even moving above normal, while sitting in traffic with A/C on full blast. Plus it pulls tons of air - only 15min cool-down times in pits, and no dead battery.

I think it is the control module. I looked down at the autotap and saw the temp was a cool 250*. $#&^%$#&%$

They are sending me a new control unit. I'm almost positive this was the problem. Great customer service.

Good info!
Question: Which type of sensor should I get and where should I mount it?

I can't speak for everyone but I just installed a jdm kit and I love it. its almost all ford factory stuff and you cant tell it wasn't on there when I bought it from the dealer.I know its a little on the high side but if I were you I'd just start saving my lunch money till I could get it..... or find the ford part #'s and make your own kit it might save some money!!

I am building my own fan setup.

Beyond the price that they are charging for the fan setup, I am disappointed in the engineering of it. While they use a good fan (a Ford fan, which outperforms all the aftermarket fans I have seen tested) they mount it in the stock shroud yet leave a ring where air can backflow. First off the shroud should be sealed to the radiator and there should be no other way for the air to go though but through the radiator. With that ring air can just recirculate. It may still work well enough even in blistering heat, but even then your running the fan more than neccesary The a/c is sure to work better at a stop if you seal that ring.

I also searched for a aftermarket fan controller and could not find one to my liking as the current ratings were marginal. So I decided to just build my own. Price is 25$ not including my time for a 50 amp continuous 200 amp surge controller. ALl this is solid state so you can avoid failed relays...I realize a lot of people don't have the skill to design their own pulse width fan controller so your stuck there. I know theres prob alot of DIY people on this board so when I am done building mine I'll put a tech article on my homepage. Some of you may not even need a stinking tech article so for you here is the chip I plan to use available from digikey.

http://www.microchip.com/1010/pline/...cfan/index.htm TC648

Beyond the controller and wiring its all a matter of getting a Ford fan, which can be found for 100. (Lincoln MK8, SN95 or later mustang fan.....) Add in the cobra waterpump for $50 and the total will be say 175$ not counting your time. But if your like me doing it yourself is just as much fun.

So with the total being 175-200 to DIY, you can see why they want 450$ for it since they are taking the time to modify the fans and install them into the shrouds. I think I would want 375$ at least to sell my setup to cover my time and I wouldn't offer you support for that price beyond that it works when received. (If your not making $45+/hr might as well go to work and forget about selling it to someone as it isn't worth your time)

I'm building 3 controllers, one for my L, one for my Twin Turbo stang, and one to sell to cover my costs for mine
