Lightning vs Typhoon/Cyclone

Anybody see the post in the classifieds about his Typhoon being a Lighting killer? Any of you L's had the opportunity to race either a Cyclone or a Typhoon. I know they are fast, but I thought they only made like 285 hp and 360 lb/ft of torque. The AWD drive helps a ton, but I think stock for stock the L should win the race. What do you all think?

Pete

Well, Syclones are faster than Typhoons, and I've witnessed stock Sy's turning 12.90s. Most stock Ty's I've seen are in the 13.3 range. So I'd say that a REALLY strong stock 01/02 Lightning would be a good match with a stock Typhoon.

the launch hard... slow down, then take off...

Stock L would be hard pressed to beat a syclone... you could definately stay close...

With my mods I've embarrassed 1 typhoon and 1 syclone pretty bad... course, I do the same to vettes also

Syclones strongest attribute is by far its holeshot. With the all wheel drive there is virtually no tire spin. A squeek and its off!My buddy has a 90 or 91(i forgot) and when we took off at the light, he immediately jumped out 1.5 cars I then slowly reeled him in. I would say that the L's trap speed would be quicker for sure and the times close. Then again I've seen them do mid to high 13's on a regular basis.I find it hard to believe a stock one could go into the 12's. They may say its stock but there are so many "hidden" tweeks with that vehicle, that only the owner could know for sure. I know the Typhoon is only good for 14-14.3. The syclones are about 1/2 second quicker.

A Typhoon is alot of work,I owned a 92 and the BEST I ever got out of it was 14.1,turbo lag up the as-.best way to launch was to set parking break than cram the gas and yank the release like a parachute cord.anything over 70 degrees and these things fall on there face,BUT you could do a 4WHEEL burnout.mine had 42000 on it when I sold it and motor was getting tired and I really didn't beat it,so personally i think the lightning would kick some ***!!Lightly modded of course.

There is a local guy with a typhoon near me. He ran a 7.68 earlier this year(cooler weather) on a built engine and tranny with lots of mods. His tranny just broke again...

Looking at that ET list, it would seem quite odd. It is possible that the trucks were not stock as claimed. I did run a guy in a Ty with my 99, and he was running 13.30s. He claimed the truck was stock, and it was pretty beat up and didn't appear to have anything done to it but who knows.

I guess that's why I'm the LightningTuner and not the Sy-Ty Tuner .

Post My best friend used to have a stock Ty..

and we used to run 'em just for *****s and giggles. It was generally a toss up between it and my stock '01 L. He could get me off the line, but by the 1/8 mile it was always pretty damn close. Sometimes he would win, sometimes me. Occasionally we would switch vehicles for the hell of it, and it didn't make much difference. He sold the Ty last week, I'm gonna miss the friendly competition

The Sy/Ty Nats. are going on right now this weekend in Gurnee IL. about 30 min. from downtown Chicago and should have over 100 Sy/Ty's and some 10 sec. runs which some of the Sy/Ty's have been doing for a while now at Great Lakes Dragway.
