Rattling Bassani Cats

Well, it happened... my Bassani Cats are rattling... looks like the media's loose. Anyone have success with warranting them through Bassani?

Then again, I'm considering just gutting them, but passing emissions in a year might be an issue...

Ideas?

its the heat shields that have come loose, dont call them until you check it. my welds broke loose and so did the ones on my JDM cats . They sound like the guts came loose and are rattling loose. just cut them off

What good...

is a warranty, when the parts that are repaired are crappy to begin with, and the replacements are no better ?

Make a quick trip to the Corral search engine & do a search on
'Bassani death rattle'... the Bassani cats flow pretty well, but they're crap. There's some dispute about 'changing suppliers', but the new cats supplied to Bassani (not from Catco) are ***** as well.

In reality, less than 50% of them fail, but I lost 2 X pipes w/ cats on my old Cobra, and there are many others like me...

From what I heard, if there is ANY damage to the heat shield, Bassani apparently tells you to take a flying leap. My 1st X pipe did have a heat shield scrape, however, when the pipe came off, it was dissected, and there were bits of the 'brick' ? laying around inside the converter... When the 2nd one went, (these things aren't cheap y' know ) I beat it a few times with a sledge hammer & threw the remains out. I replaced the pipe with a Mac High flow H pipe & was very happy with it.

Mac also sells just the high flow converters...

Good luck !

I had the same problem a little over 6 months ago, first the the heat shields started rattling so i had them rewelded, then the other side so i just took them off. After about a month of them being quiet a very bad rattle started and none of the heat shields were loose so I knew they had gone bad. I called Bassani and after extensive conversations I convinced them to warranty the cats with there new "beer can " cats. So I had to purchase the new cat pipes and ship my old ones back once I got them because my truck is a daily driver and once they recieved them and checked for damage they credited my account back the full price plus shipping. I think they know the cats go bad and once you mention other known cases of this happening they are happy to comply.

Same issue here. Called Bassani and they sent me another cat pipe. I paid to ship the old one back.

I'm pretty sure it isn't the heat shields, but I'll be up under there tonight double checking. Oh well.

Anyone run w/o cats? How bad does the truck smell?

Hey SMJayman, I gutted the cats on my stock pipe. The smell doesn't really bother me and to me its not that bad compared to my mustang.
